Someone has dumped 7 red lab puppies on the main A road near me. Thats several hundred/thousand pounds worth of puppies, assumed they cant sell, I would have thought red labs quite rare? Poor little devils

Stolen or cross-bred with some lab in them. Lab crosses look just like pure bred labs when young.

I saw that too. Apparently they only weigh about half what they should and their nails are very sharp suggesting they spent an awful lot of time in the crate. They’ve been cleaned up by a groomers and now in day care/kennels that the council use.

We have various friends who are finding puppies aren’t selling as well as they did in Covid, but a whole litter being dumped is weird, they were 10-12 weeks old too. All a bit strange.

Covered in mange too I heard. Probably turned out not to be sellable, even local well bred litters are slow to go round me at the moment.

There was a litter of springers dumped as well (not same place) that were in an awful state. They were on Spaniel Aid page.

And of course weaned pups are expensive to feed. Not that I am in any way condoning the dumping of puppies. Surely they could have been handed to a welfare association. Good job they are a long way from us

The puppy market has really slowed down, thank heavens. I have friends who foster for DT and in the last few weeks there have been several unsold litters handed in to the charity, which is at least preferable to dumping them. They are generally around 10 weeks old, so have hopefully trashed the so called breeders homes and cost them a lot to feed so they will never consider breeding again.

Heartless people, just could can people do horrific things like this? Its believed they have spent their entire life in a crate and were severely malnourised. Steve Craddock, manager of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home centre in south London, warned in August about the cost of living crisis: ‘We are concerned that’s going to be an increasing reason for people bringing their dogs in to Battersea.’
Lockdown people were buying dogs for ridiculous prices, now they're dumping them because they can't afford them anymore.

A local rescue had an entire litter of puppies handed in. No homes lined up and proved impossible to sell as people are already struggling with / nervous of living costs. I think some breeders realised too late that the puppy market had slowed down a bit too late or are being even more irresponsible and breeding anyway and just hoping they’ll sell.

Poor wee things! I hope they all get good homes now. Even well bred litters from reputable breeders seem to be slow to sell just now. I think the puppy market is saturated.

Given the amount of applications for the 50 odd that came from Ireland, I have no doubt they’ll find homes very quickly. They look super cute. Even non KC reg litters normally sell, especially labs.

Thing is I wouldn’t consider it with the health test issues. I k ow I’m one person .
Red’s had a shit life but has decent hips and elbow scores and a pedigree worth investing time in.
I’m sure with the publicity they’ll be snapped up but how many are out there?

I’m the same , my new pup won’t be shown or bred from but I still wanted all health tests and decent lines . People will be queuing up for those just because of their story , and they probably won’t be the sort of owners who have done their
homework and know what raising a pup entails .

Perhaps it's time to put a ban on importing any more rescue dogs from abroad as it looks like we are soon going to have a whole load of home bred ones to worry about. Of course such a ban will never happen, but just a thought.
It's all very, very sad and was entirely predictable when everyone was desperately competing to buy lockdown puppies with no thought put into what actually owning a dog meant, nor what would happen if they had to go back to work, nor the cause and effect of such demand escalating dog prices to ridiculous heights. The preponderance of 'cute' dogs that were bought with inherited physical problems coupled with the cost of living crisis is only going to escalate matters.

today there was a story in the Washington Post about a stolen dam with her puppies. The dam was found tied to a light post in bad shape. 2 of the puppies have been found. 5 are still missing. One woman had a puppy and realized it was too young to be away from mama and brought it to the shelter to be with the dam. People really make me want to give them a good smacking.
