One of my liveries has abandoned her horse with me. She hasn't been to see him or pay her bill since November. I have to move from the field next week and don't have room for him at home. I can't afford to keep feeding him as I have four of my own. He is an Arab gelding 20 months old by a lovely German stallion called Master Design. I am looking for a permanent loan home or to sell him really cheaply. Any one out there got any ideas or know anyone who could help?

Don't think you can sell him, without serving notice 1st, that he is to be sold in lieu of dept (unless of course she signs him over to you).

Contact MHOL, they are on here. They usually trace missing horses, but in this case they may give you some idea about where you stand legally and what your options are.
Good luck and well done for looking after him for this long.xx

I'm not sure how you stand legally but I would certainly be sending her an 'intent to sell within 14 days' letter registered post tomorrow morning. Keep copies. Good luck and again well done for keeping him, poor mite.

I have a protocol which sets out the steps you must take to stay on the right side of the law in the case of an abandoned horse or pony. If you message me your email address I'll send you a copy
ETA you won't be able to sell or loan him within a week - it takes significantly longer than that to send notices and allow time for them to respond

A livery did this to me, and I had to serve an abandonment notice on them. Serve the notice, and if they don't get in touch withint fourteen days, the horse is legally yours to do with what you wish.
