was at tickhill riding club today when a woman had heard that i was looking for a horse and told me a bout a horse at abbey glen stables called wizard she said he is 14.2hh and a amazing allrounder anybody know about abbey glenn stables or wizard plz post or pm me

I went to look at a horse at abby glen stables... and it looked nearly dead! There was no muscle on it at all, we wanted to buy it just to feed it up and then riding it was awful too!

It might have just been that horse, but I definately wouldn't go back there again.

i have brought mine from another dealer in doncaster who was fab but when i was looking for a horse i rang them a good few times and spoke to someone once but they never came backto me. if you want my dealer pm me

try doing a forum search as there have been posts on them before. I personally had no problems with them but one of the ladies does have a thing for taking on horses in need of some tlc which may possibly what the other poster may have found.

i have brought i beautiful dapple grey mare called magic from abbey glenn she is my first horse and she has tought me so much and i have onli had her since febuary 13th :D

I bought a horse from them. Apart from being a couple of inches smaller than advertised she was as described to me. I was told her foibles when I phoned and found them very honest about her when I went to see her. I found them straightforward to deal with and would buy from them again. The wee mare I bought is a sweetie now, by the way.

hi
i have bought from Michelle recently and found the whole experience nothing but a joy. We had had a very bad experience buying private so looked to Michelle after meeting her son Chris.

Michelle was very welcoming and made us feel at ease and introduced me to tonto.
tonto is a 15h Irish cob who was only 5 and a half yet was perfect in the school and out on hacks.
after the girls who work along side Michelle had rode him i was given the opportunity and as i don’t like to be watched when trying horses they left me alone with my partner to try him.

we decided tom as we now call him was perfect for us but even when we got cold feet due to having my mare pts Michelle was brilliant and gave us time to decide if we wanted to go ahead.

Yes some of the horses at abbey glen do look under weight as some one has mentioned above however Michelle refuses to sell them/work them until they are back to fighting fit and knows and loves each of them

It took a week for tom to be vetted due to using my busy vets but in that time i came and rode tom several times both in the school and out on hacks.

Michelle had only had tom a few weeks but she had got to know him well and knew his quirks like being nervous which allowed us to decided if he was the one for us

i would like to say a huge thank you to Michelle, Hannah, Frankie, Zoë and charlotte and all the others for all there help in this process and will be seeing you again when we look to buy my partner a horse.

all the best
Helen Tim and our new friend tom

My horse came from Abbey Glenn.. He has his moments, as do they all, but generally means well and is exactly as described!! I found they were more than happy to discuss his negatives as well as his positives for me to try him in as many circumstances as possible, drag as many vets, experts, friends in and out as I wanted.. and that was enough for me.

He is completely bombproof on the roads in any traffic, will jump anything he is pointed at in a calm and sensible manner (Not that I can claim to take full advantage of this because I am a wimp) calm and quiet to handle, but used to hate having his legs brushed, is strong/more forward than you would expect such a dopey looking cob to be, and seems unsettled by occasional random things (for example, new farrier.. despite being 100% to shoe for the last 18 months!!)

The only thing I would say is that dealing with some of the ermm.. emotional scars? left over from horses not always having the best start is second nature to them, in my experience they will be honest about any quirks they have seen/been told about so be realistic about what you are able/willing to deal with when you get home and make it clear from the beginning.

I bought a horse from Michelle at Abbeyglenn in June 2010 we went to see so many 'amazing sounding horses from the ads' to get there and find anything but! I have never had any quirms about buying from dealers as like in anything there are good and bad ones!

I had seen our horse advertised and thought... hmmm he sounds too good to be true and cheap! so didnt ring up for a while then thought well may aswell. and so glad i did! he is a wonderful little chap! we have even sent him back for schooling on! her son Chris is one hell of a rider! our boy was exactly as described she wouldnt let us go out without questionning about what we wanted etc to make sure we were well matched! once there we tried a couple and were given very honest feed back.

I have recommended numerous ppl to Michelle at Abbeyglenn and no one as been disappointed! They arent flash, they are good, honest genuine horse people! a rare find these days!

Got mine from there and, despite my concerns based on them being a dealer, found them as straight with me as I was with them.

Absolutely would not change my purchase as she has been immense.

Look s like you also had a bad experience with Abbey Glen?? So did I and nothing came of solicitors and small claims court. What was your issue?

Chrissy i have just read with interest your comment and your previous comments regarding your new purchase which at the time you were delighted with and openly commended and praised the seller I understand you sold the horse on to a dealer which was then sold on £4500 and has not appeared on the open market since. I feel personally this was down to rider/owner error and possibly ill fitting tack and the behaviour described would fall under that remit. which can not be assigned to the horse or seller. Horses are not washing machines they are free thinking/moving animals if you ride you should expect to fall off from time to time, you have to work with any horse to build up trust and a bond! which can take years, i know of another pony which michelle took back because the owners were not right for him as they created mounting problems he as since been sold on and is doing amazing in his new home the problem was created by the new owner, but they took responsibility for their actions and michelle respected that and took the pony back without hesitation.
