Please help! I have a piebald cob mare who contantly gets a boil or an abcess on her rump, or I am asumming it is one of these. She has done for many years and I have never found a cure or a treatment for this other than hibi scrub and bacteria spray. however she truly hates me treat the wound once it is open and being on her rump it is hard to treat without her beaking my leg!! how can I stop her getting these leisons?

My last mare had this, I treated the same way you have, it kept coming back so after third time got vet out and she was given antibacterial injection also a syringe so I could clean inside area with h.scrub. Never came back.

It sounds like she has had a wound there that has healed over but has a foreign object inside (could be a hair or a grass seed or something equally tiny) which causes it to come to a head in order to try and expel the object. The only way to get rid of it once and for all would be to have it completely flushed out, and possibly dug out, by a vet.. I had a mare with an over reach wound that constantly flared up and she ended up needing surgery to remove whatever was in it and allow it to heal fully.
