I would agree with JillA... boots and pads until you get a decent foot to shoe to. No good putting a shoe on a compromised foot, problems will manifest in all sorts of ways. If you get a decent pair of hoof boots, then once you get a sole and the infection has gone and he's sound, you can remove the pads and walk him in hand with boots on, on hard surface to stimulate the caudal hoof and promote the sole to toughen and harden.
