I'm currently "babysitting" my friends 6 show Welsh Section D stallions whilst shes away for the weekend, this afternoon went to get her driving boy in from paddock (he'd been out all morning absolutely fine) he was having a roll so i waited at the gate for him to get up - as he got up he limped, though he'd maybe twisted his leg whilst rolling, took him in to barn, tied him up checked his leg couldnt feel anything but was definitely sore as wouldn't put it to floor, picked his hoof out to check for stones and as I went down the side of his frog with hoof pick black gunge was oozing out of the side of his frog - I cleaned it up with hibiscrub, then put a poultice and vetwrap on it - is there anything else i should be doing ? should I leave it open now its burst or continue to poultice it ? thanks.

Keep poulticing until nothing more comes out of the hole, keep covered for a few days to ensure nothing else gets in there. Put duck tape over the vetwrap to stop it getting wet.

Keep poulticing until there is nothing coming out of the hole. As OP says, duck tape is good to stop vet wrap getting wet.

Antibiotics don't work for abscesses, if still worried, ask your farrier, they are brilliant at sorting these out
