my showhorse came out of his stable on three legs this am , heat in foot , trotted up very lame , hot tubed and poulitced and hoping its just an abcess, no heat further up leg xx

horse with diarhea is fine and vet out for show horse , it amazes me how people can jump to conclusions that we come on here and dodnt get a vet out ,
All my horses health comes first and a vet gets called when needed

I think that I must have missed any posts in which you said that the vet was on their way both to this horse and the one with diarrhoea :). Usually people who are asking for opinions whilst waiting for a vet to arrive, say so.

There were a number of helpful replies to your thread re diarrhoea, it would have been courteous to have acknowledged them. Or have I missed something?

tiddlypom / I wasn't made aware we have to say that vet is on the way , and I always dodnt have the time to go in here so sorry if not replied , sometimes just a little advice is helpful rather than a interrogation as have spent thousands last year on my other horse at a equine hospital and no expense spares when comes to there health , it makes me think twice re the forum sometimes

OP does sounds like it coud be an abscess, my girl's burst out through the heel bulb - yuk!
They need an escape route so hopefully hot tubbing will help if not, I'd call farrier rather than vet if I was convinced it was an abscess.

If you have a good farrier call them! My farrier is amazing at finding them and very good at digging them out without causing further injury.

I'd get the farrier first :) our show pony has done the same, convinced myself he had broken down as heat and swelling in the leg also, vet came yesterday and announced it's an abscess. Will have cost me best part of £150 for something I should have known better about. Perfect weather conditions for them at the moment. Hope he's ok, poor chap.

Any update re the lame horse OP?

Apologies if you are upset by my mild observations re your previous posts. However, we are not mind readers on here and mentioning whether or not you have the vet or farrier coming out is pretty relevant information! FWIW, it sounds like an abscess to me too.

I only popped up on this thread as I was following your previous one about the horse with diarrhoea, as one of mine had the runs earlier this year. There were about a dozen replies, some quite lengthy, but you have not replied to any of them. It is simple politeness to thank people who have offered advice, and I'm sure that they would be interested if you updated that thread.

Any reaction to hoof testers ? It does sound like it could an abcess, sudden onset and look like theyve broken a leg ! You'll find out soon enough if it draws

Barry got one a couple of weeks ago, I've never had to deal with one before. He came in from the field looking not quite right, half an hour later he was on three legs. I got the vet out as I suspected abscess but wasn't entirely sure. Good thing I went for the vet- he had to be sedated.

tiddlypom, the horse with diarhea is doing very well, changed hayalge over as last bale which was opened last week was more rich , aslo upped his gastric supplement also , another few of the liveries have had problems with filled legs / loose stools on this haylage also but only found that out today
