Promised an update after recent post about some udder development in the early stages for my maiden mare.

Bad news, Vet confirmed today - No baby!

Am really gutted as you can imagine. She picked up a respiratory virus just after scanning in foal mid-June & ended up on antibiotics, I knew then it wasn't a great start but she bounced back & all seemed well but it obviously wasn't to be.

Thanks to all, I learnt a lot on here & in fact, probably wouldn't have been alerted to the possibility of a lost pregnancy without some of the advice I'd received from others who posted. (Andy Pandy in particular) - I'm grateful for that & although I'm a bit miserable, would rather know now than wait 'til next spring to find out.

Best & Kindest Regards to all, good luck with all your plans x

Very sorry to hear this. Such a shame... If she's still cycling it would be WELL worth getting a culture, cytology and biopsy done (but please ensure that all at least the first two are performed together) to see what went wrong... it will get you into a better position for next season.

Sorry I had to flag up possible bad news, but at least you know now... fingers crossed for next time

Oh now, sorry to hear that....My mare is in the very early stages i.e 3wks and im paronoid about everything at the moment.

Can I ask what the signs would be if the mare has lost the baby??

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. As you say, at least you know now and haven't got to be torturing yourself for the next 6 months thinking 'is she / isn't she'.

Huge hugs to you
x

Sincere Thanks for all kind messages & thoughts. Really not sure if I have the heart to do this all again next year as it did consume a fair amount of time, money (£1k dent in my pocket - 'all in') & emotional energy to get as far as we did but I may think differently in a few days / weeks / months (???)

Will now up her work a bit and see if I can cheer us both up with a few outings with the Crawley & Horsham over the winter.

As for MrsMagoo's post: signs of abortion for mine included- increase in udder size, appearing to be in season just v. recently plus concerns when she picked up that virus early on - never a good way to start a pregnancy. I bred her myself & know her so well so I did have a strong hunch that something was up.
My advice: Have a good working relationship with a vet who you respect for their breeding knowledge & keep reading & posting on here - there's a varied mix of people, many with a wealth of breeding experience & they're good enough to share it.....

Best Wishes 2 all x
