About to give up! Having a hard time finding my dream horse

Don't give up and don't be downhearted. I struggled massively with my horse search. I spent from July 2011 until march 2012. I found one that failed September. I had a few breaks gave up, abandoned search started again had another fail feb. I was told by several friends and non friends that I was far too picky and my list of requirements was unrealistic. Well ya booh sucks to you. I have an absolutely wonderful horse he suits me and is perfect. The only little bit of give I had to do was up my budget a little. I am in seventh heaven and have had my special horse for nearly 5 months.
Don't be disheartened stick to your dream and succeed.

Never thought of this Starzaan - would this not be very expensive? thanks

It will cost you more than going to private sellers, but then it might work out as the same money because you won't have to drive all over the shop looking at horses - they'll do all the leg work and pick out the top few for you to try. Definitely worth a try.

What a wonderful post! :)

Stick at it OP, and don't get fed up of going trying horses and 'settle' for something, I hope you and your dream horse find each other. It is just fabulous when you have a horse that is everything you hope for.

Maybe drop the idea of a 'perfect' horse. You could be overlooking horses who would be ideal for you because they don't fit the 'perfect horse' idea that you have in your mind. :) (I mean that kindly, not trying to be bitchy.)

What are you looking for?

I'm looking for an allrounder in general 15.2hh - 16.2hh 4-9yrs medium weight - ideally something so i can make my own but with good basic flatwork established and the potential to go on in any sphere. Must be bold / brave jumper and most importantly love this job. I am looking to have a go hunting this next season, XC, affiliated SJ ing and to get round a BE90 course. A massive fan of RID's!

You'll have a small problem. Nice 4 year old RIDs are out there (I do have a few coming on but most are sold very shortly after being backed) but a 4 year old RID is still very immature and a sensible owner/producer won't have done too much with them in the interests of not over-taxing them. In Ireland, some are hunted as 3 year olds - it's downright wrong!!

By the time they're 5, they're sold - and it is VERY rare to find a genuine RID of 5-7 for sale. People who get them hang onto them very tightly! By 8-9, IF they are 100% sound and going well in any discipline, they're even harder to find.

You WERE probably badly treated by the seller of the horse you found - but - on the other hand - the other person might have seen the horse before you. I don't show horses to two people very close together, but then I rarely advertise. If someone has advertised, then I guess it's understandable to sell the horse to the first person who puts money down. I prefer to deal with one potential buyer for a horse at a time to give them (and me) a chance to be sure they're suited.

I actually know of a 6 year old that fits your criteria in every way - except it's a mare - and even further from you than I am (but not as far as Ireland!) PM me if I can help.

Thanks Janet, I have sent you a PM..

I did not go to see Judi T - the lady some people recommended on here. Something came out of the wood works!

I am about to put my wanted ad on a few sites so i will see what i get back. Overall im shattered with it! Every weekend WITHOUT FAIL for four months i have travelled to horse view. I have literally been all over the country! haha! If nothing comes back with the wanted ads i will have a break and leave it untill xmas. Hopefully they will be some bargins then too!
