Have decided to try some Abprazole for my unhappy, very girthy gelding.

Can anyone tell me if they have experiences of the paste or granules? If either is better? Thanks!

According to my vet, only the paste really works. It's something to do with not being broken down by the acid in the stomach, but I can't really remember what he said.

I've done stacks of research and as far as I can understand the granules work just fine. I first heard about Abler through someone at work who used granules on her horse- successfully. If you search on here and other forums everyone seems pleased with the results.
I've ordered granules so I really hope so! Nervously awaiting their arrival!

The granules have worked for my boy, but the mare on my yard seems to have relapsed since changing from the paste to the granules :(

My boy wasn't scoped though so it's not 100% certain he had ulcers. However, he was unridable before and since being on the granules his girthiness has gone so...

thanks for your responses.

poiuytrewq - I too have done a fair bit of research now, and i wonder if failure of the granules comes down to the way in which they are fed? as far as i can gather;

- feed on empty stomach
- don't mix with water

So, i plan to feed first thing in the morning, mixed with a smidge of apple puree & then syringed into his mouth - so basically my own paste? Not sure if this contravenes the 'don't mix with water' advice though?

Very grateful for any tips!

I always mix water into feed, but then I sprinkle the granules on top and it is first thing, so on an empty stomach.

Yes the best way so I gather is
1- empty stomach
2- as dry as possible so the coating won't dissolve until its in the correct place
3- feed a probiotic alongside to replace good gut bacteria
4- cut down slowly rather than feed the treatment for however long then stop.

I'd be interested to hear how you do?

Thanks for the tips - and Wagtail's too! I will be sure to report back how we get on with the granules :)

granules were fine, i fed it in a dry small bucket feed, and then fed the rest of breakfast hard feed wet after that had been eaten.

the coating doesnt break down till its in the stomach so should be as effective as the paste.

i opted for granules as my horse is a pain to syringe into his mouth (being 17.2 and spitting it everywhere when i worm him)
