Abscess - barefoot or shod?

I feel silly now! Lol!

Yes well, the iron thing, I forgot about that and she is clearly hypersensitive. I can't see why 10 horses out on the same pasture can manage not to abscess and she gets it repeatedly! Need to get reading again... 6 months off having a baby has clearly taken its toll on my brain! :D

Thanks for the discussion Christmas Kia. :)

You need to whack copper into her TH but I think you know that now. :) in theory you need zinc too, but I never have.

Good luck, will you tell us how it goes???

Thanks cpt! :) yes course I will. Will look into it ASAP. Think I will do another analysis this spring too before she goes back out on it.

Cheers! :)

We've only had one abscess on a shod horse (average of about 10 horses on the yard for last 10 years!) but 3 or 4 on horses with shoes off. (Not barefoot, turned away without shoes for holidays, unfed and unrugged) Our only permanently unshod one has never had an abscess in 17 years but I don't think a population of 1 Shetland counts for much :P
