Vet has said apply iodine to healing abscess holes. Do I apply neat? I have pevidine the scrub stuff. Should have asked vet!

You could do but I would water it down slightly with cooled boiled water it will sting like hell

If the abscess has drained, put some neat iodine into a spray bottle and get it to jet directly into the hole in the hoof, do at least twice daily.

To fill the abscess holes, I usually use sugardine; sugar and iodine mixed together to create a peanut butter consistency.

In that case I'd tub with iodine mixed with Epsom salts till drained, then neat iodine after when dry.
Then mix a paste as airliner mentions to fill hole.

Sugar helps draw infection. Any prolapsed uteruses, rinse debris, and cover with sugar before reinserting - old father-in-law and vet hack.

Hi all. Another week or so on and he’s sound. There’s still a small hole. I’ve ordered hoof packing stuff but it’s not arrived yet. What can I pack it with? Currently wearing a boot in the field.appreciate any thoughts.

Pack it with cotton wool covered in hoof paste or similar.

I do this too and pack with cotton wool.
The iodine keeps it sterile whilst the sugar draws moisture away.
