Abscess healing

A quick question please. The vet dug a hole to find an abscess. It’s about the size of the end of my thumb. The abscess drained and horse is now good, I’ve been keeping it covered with a nappy/duck tape just to keep it clean, but how long would you do this for? Obviously it’s going to be months until the hole is totally healed.

If the abscess has drained and the hole is clean, I pack with field paste and turn out. Pick out the field paste daily, wash and replace. Did this with my cob after the same procedure and it took at least a full hoof growth to fill in.

Agree with highmileagecob, pack it with something from Red Horse, although I'd recommend Hoof Stuff as that is for deep holes and cracks. Red Horse products are amazing.
