Vet found abscess in my new mare on friday which have been treating every day and she is now sound on that leg, most of pus gone. Now she has gone lame on the other hind leg, spoke to vet when i was getting other mares stuff and he said maybe she is prone to abscess now. She is 22yrs old and never had one before. Hopefully farrier out in morn to dig it out if not will get the vet out. She isnt good with vets so will be easier for her to see farrier. Is this normal to get 2 at same time? Shes living out same as she was before i got her. Or should i bring her in stable her for a few days to help???

Hi, sorry about your girl.xx
My gelding got an abcess in one hind foot - 9 days later as it was healing, he got one in the other hind foot! Poor lad, it took over 6 weeks to come totally sound, but he did, and in that time he lived out the whole time. He hates being in, and my farrier said he was better off out to move around.
So I just thnk it was 'bad' luck he got them at all ( never had one to our knowledge before) and serious bad luck to get another so soon after.
So imo, use the farrier to help trat her and if your ground is dryish, leave her out. Its hard to keep feet clean in deep mud, but imo out is better if your horse is happy.x

Sadly this doesn't seem to be an uncommon story at the moment :(

There may be widening of the white line as the horse gets older and the mud does love creeping into tiny little spaces!!;)

Hope it gets sorted soon.
Imogen
