My horse went very lame almost over night a couple of weeks ago. There was no swelling in the leg but heat in the hoof so treated as an abscess until a farrier could come out. Farrier used the hoof testers and had no reaction apart from one spot on/near the frog. He thought the abscess was in/near his frog, he trimmed it back a bit and said just keep wet poulticing it. He also said the last farrier had ‘under run’ his frog.
After a week of wet poulticing he is now sound in walk but still a bit lame in trot.. There is sometimes some slimy stuff on the poultice pad around the frog area (which i understand is normal?) but I certainly haven’t seen any huge amounts of pus or anything really…
Do I keep poulticing? Time for the vet?
