Mare was a little lame when doing my rounds on Tuesday. Thought it was probably because she's been hooning about with the new boy and it's a little slippy, couldn't find anything of concern on her leg/in her hoof, even after washing it out to be sure, no heat, no pulse, and she took off like a rocket with him again! Farrier out Wednesday anyway, she was still a bit lame on that leg, he has a look and said he thought he could see something that could be an abscess, had a dig, and got a little blood but that's all. No hole to be seen. Told to poultice it and then wash/tub daily. She lives out. Poultice is a no, if she isn't taking it off herself the boys are helping her! So I've left it off, but am soaking her foot and applying field paste to where she's had it dug out. She's getting better, she's happy moving around the field and having the odd Araby look at me moments, but I'm not seeing any hole appear, any pus, or heat etc... I'm staring to think she's bruised it on a stone and her soles are soft as it's winter. Should I just carry on as we are? Everyone is having their feet picked daily anyway, and a good soaking spray of hoof cleanse/dilute Milton, as feet aren't great in the boys anyway. I was just expecting a big hole and loads of pus when he said abscess!
