Well. Just looking for some advice really.

My horse was sore going out on weds morning this week just gone. That night I went to get him and he wouldn't put weight on his right fore much. Slowly we managed to get him to the yard ( he is barefoot and wears boots for the field ,hoof boots. Phoned the vet who said it sounded like an abscess so to poultice.

Vet came out the next day and dug a hole, said it was an abscess and is draining and to dry poultice from the following day ( friday) so I did until Saturday night though I got nothing. Went back to wet /hot poultice and I still have nothing and he is still really lame.

Spoke to the out of hours as I was unsure whether it was an abscess or not and they said to carry on as I am doing. Deep bed and poultice though with some bute . Normally I don't do bute for an abscess and I turn out but given he is still very lame and I aren't getting anything from the poultice I am wary to turn him out.

Did your vet actually find pus when they dug in? I would probably wet poultice again like you're doing in case it's going to burst out somewhere else. We had one on the yard last year that started in the heel and then blew out the coronet band - that was over the course of 3 weeks.

Back to post easter vet service tomorrow so you could try ringing the first vet again and seeing if they want another visit

I have texted my farrier and shall be ringing him tomorrow.
Vet didn't actually get any pus puy the hoof testers on and I am guessing dug where he was most positive.

It's been just over a week and still nothing :( still one very lame horse :( farrier found nothing apart from deep bruising near his toe :(

If it helps any, my horse came in from field non-weightbaring and we poulticed for 3 days (although there was no specific sore point in hoof) and when nothing came out we called vet again who suspected maybe soft tissue injury in hip as it did fit with how he was walking. Still very sore on 2 bute twice a day!
Couple days later didn't improve on complete rest so vet looked and had a dig around where heat was most in hoof, and hey presto massive abcess!
Poulticed and tubbed for 4 days until nothing coming out, so dried out sole etc. and hydrogen peroxide. Completely sound on no bute! Shoe back on and hole plugged. All fine, back out to field.
2 days later comes in hopping lame and non-weightbaring again!! So we're back to tubbing and poutlicing, hoping what ever is in there is coming out. There is more pus coloured stuff on poultice so fingers crossed it's that lol.

So don't give up hope, it could just be a big deep abcess - my horse is normally sound when he has an Abcess, I only know he has one when it pops out the heel!! So this is quite a hole and goes deep.

Get vet to have a dig around the hottest part of foot and see what happens!
Is the shoe off? Have you tried tubbing?
