I'd keep on a dry bedding and see if it starts to close up. Is the horse sound or do you think there's still pus in there?

How long until your farrier is due?
If there is no pus, I'd agree with keeping it clean and dry, if you can this weather! I'd be applying a wound powder as often as possible, getting it down in to the cracks.

It does ooze if it’s poked and is causing pain on pressure. He’s not overly lame but is sore. Such a struggle in this weather and he hates being in so much!

Vet visit to obtain advice, but clean it well, dress it and change dressing daily and keep dry. It’s infection you need to be aware of and monitor the potential development.
