has anyone experienced absesses in the heel? My horse has been on box rest for the past 5 weeks with laminitis and recently became very lame on his right foreleg it was really hot and swollEn. I then noticed what looks like an absess on his heel. I phoned vet and farrier and both gave me same advice. However I have looked through books and online and I've not come accross anything on absesses on the heel.

My work's driving pony had a massive heel abscess after laminitis. It confused everyone for a while and took ages to burst. The vet and farrier said that abscesses often follow laminitis but that they tend to be around the toes and only occasionally in the heels.

ETA Get the vet or farrier to have a dig for it then you can tub and poultice

I have found that hand walking on tarmac can help the absess to burst. The biggest problem is making sure that you keep in clean afterwards in the stable etc
