On Derby House at the moment they have a BOGOF offer on their own brand rugs. However if you only put one rug in the basket and put the discount code 'BOGOF' it counts that one as the free one so only charges you for postage! You can only buy one rug at a time but I have just bought two seperately meaning I got 2 rugs for £10 instead of £180...guessing it is a glitch that will get sorted soon so be quick :) Hopefully I get the rugs!

I ordered one but when I went back to do the second it said code not accepted. I too am waiting for an email to say no chance! Not had the best experiences with Derby house so I'll be very impressed if they honour it! Thank you OP!!

Someone on my local fb group showed us a few days ago, I misunderstood what she meant at the time and didn't use it. But she got both her rugs and the code still worked for us a few days later so hopefully we will get them :)

thanks OP, i just used the code for one rug, but got "code invalid" for second attempt :-( so we shall see if the rug arrives ;-)

Grrr I didn't use it in the end cause I just assumed it was to good to be true and they would just send emails saying the orders were cancelled

Excellent! Have tried it and it went through, but they'll probably cancel it! Does anyone know if DH own brand come up big or small? Not sure whether to get 6'3 or 6'6 for my lad! Ordered one for my mare but would like one for him too.

Just had a look at this as DH rugs are a perfect fit for us. A fly rug which I bought last year for £15 in their half-price sale is now listed as £50 (but reduced from £70, so... BARGAIN!).

WTAF?

Just went to look thinking eh might as well try and the buy one get one free sale isn't an option to click anymore. Sooo my guess if they realised 😞

Everyone on fb has said they have just realised too :( I find derby house pricing really erratic, always seems to be changing. Every so often you get a good bargain but I prefer to use elsewhere in general

So, are they cancelling the orders now?

Damn just got a cancellation email :( but with a £20 gift voucher which is generous!

Edited- just seen I only get the voucher if I proceed with the order so maybe not so generous!

Never mind, was worth a try :)

To be honest i am really surprised by this thread.

The offer was to Buy One Get One Free. People have realised that the computer has an error whereby if one rug is put in, then it puts it as free. You say you have "Bought two, but one at a time" but by your explanation you have not "bought" any rug, merely paid for the posting.

With the other language on here it seems you realised it was an error on behalf of the company, yet ordered anyway.

I think you are lucky if you only get a cancellation, whereas I think you have committed fraud.

You knew the offer was not for free rugs, yet ordered anyway, hoping they would not notice.

I am not sure how that differs from stealing one out of the door when the shop worker is looking the other way?

I agree!

Yeah I think its a real shame to take advantage of this error. Great way to encourage yet another equestrian company to go bust...

Of course they'd cancel the orders, they're not stupid. And I think they're insane offering you all a £20 voucher when you knew full well that you were trying to rip them off!

I saw this and I LOVE a bargain, but I didn't even click through to Derby House to have a look. There is a bargain and then there is taking advantage of a genuine mistake. It made me a bit uncomfortable TBH

Well, I'd tell you to all get down off your high horses but I have no idea how big your neds are.. ba boom :D

TBH, it's really not that serious an issue for people to be getting all worried for DH over. They obviously noticed the mistake, but still worth a punt. I rarely reserve much sympathy for corporations/ companies and it was, after all, a rather silly error on their behalf. There's much worse things going on in the world.

Not interested in falling out with anyone on a forum over it so won't comment anymore, before I get myself in trouble. However, I do think it's going a little far to accuse people of being no better than shoplifters. It's really REALLY not comparable and a simplistic logic would imply that it is.

If you don't agree with it, don't do it. But don't accuse others of being thieves!?

But morally, you are a thief.

You know it was a mistake. You know (I hope) therefore it is wrong to take advantage. That the company involved will suffer. Yes, they made a silly IT mistake, but it's not actually some faceless, corporate identity. It's someone trying to run a business.

What if this was your business? That you'd built up and nurtured? Would you deserve no sympathy for a silly IT
mistake?

Just because there are worse things going on in the world doesn't give you the right to take advantage of the fact.
Or do you think it does, somehow?

So, let's say an ATM gave you twice the money you'd requested while still only charging you for the one amount, are you really telling me you'd accept the extra cash?!?

You are a thief. Or a wanna be thief.

I expect DH will see this thread and use it to take action on the people who committed fraud.

I would not say I am on a high horse, this is a forum for discussion, and I saw something I feel is wrong, so said so. Not sure you can tell people what to put or not put.

The definition of Theft.... Dishonestly Appropriates Property Belonging to another, With the Intention of Permanently Depriving the other of it.

Breaking that down....

Dishonestly - This part is often hard to prove, as you need to show a state of mind. However, when you say "they will probably cancel it." it shows you have the knowledge that they did not intend to give away free rugs for just the cost of postage.

Appropriates property belonging to another - Meaning in this case the rug was their rug, and you take control or ownership of it.

With the intention of permanently depriving the other of it - meaning that you had not merely intended to borrow the rug, and did not intend to return it in new condition shortly.

There, that seems to fit this circumstance. If you did not get the rug, then that would only be attempt theft - breaking that down...

"Attempt" - Take action that is more then merely preparatory. Preparatory might have been putting the rug in the virtual basket. More than preparatory would be completing the transaction.

"Theft" - see above.

Again, I don't see how this is different to seeing that a shop worker is called away from the till and you walk out of a shop without paying. The "basket" is a virtual one on internet shopping, but the principal is the same.

As for saying that it is OK because you have little sympathy for big companies - well M&S is a big company, but I would walk out without paying there either.

For anyone who has "done" this, then you will probably "get away" with saying you did not realise, it was an error, whatever. But, for this crowing on Facebook or forums that you have done this, maybe they won't notice etc, it does kind of prove the intent, which is the hardest bit to prove.
