Absolute bargain rugs!!!

I got £10 rugs from dh postage free earlier in the year from their sale , totally legit so it does happen, turnout and stable, catch was in 7ft sizes only but that suits me :-)

If this had been a thread of "Derby House has some really good offers on!" then there would have been no issue. It is because people have openly on a forum said that they know DH has made a mistake, that they would "Take a punt" or "Knew it would be cancelled" that suggests that they knew it was not just a good offer.

Taking advantage of an offer to clear 7ft rugs that is open an honest is very different to trying to cheat a system.

I agree that all those who just did the deed can say it was a mistake. Those who crowed about it on Facebook and HHO cannot. They have proved their Mens Rea (guilty state of mind).

TBH this sort of gloating, sharing a cheat, post normally just appears on Facebook, where posts can be deleted if you are found out.

Sadly, on HHO, unless the Admin take pity on those admitting wrongdoing, the posts are here forever.

It is never a victim-less crime. I do not know how many employees are at DH, but it is hardly a large company or corporation. As to it being some high powered IT expert, I suspect not. I suspect it is a web package that some poor admin has tried to implement, and now the company has lost money, aided by callous people spreading the "news", that some well meaning person now has their job in jeopardy.

I don't know if you read my post re theft, above, but what you have done does NOT fit, as you have bought "legit" as you say. The others have not. What they have done is different.

Red-1, it's interesting seeing the different views. How about if you saw something for sale at a ridiculously cheap price, say a rug that should be £65 on sale for £10? Changes are you know it's an error, would you purchase it?

I feel very sorry for the faceless little IT bod who made the error. I bet he/she is in a lot of trouble right now :(

If it was on sale then why would I think it were an error? If I genuinely thought it were an error then of course I would ask. I have done, ask if it is correct. Would you not?

If someone gave me change for a £20 when I had only paid with a £10 then yes, I would point that out too. Would you not? Is that not what being an honest person is?

However, in either case it would not be as bad as spreading on the internet that a company has made a computer error, that I knew was wrong, whereby I entered into a contract to buy one and get one free, then not only broke terms of the contract, but then crowed about the error on the internet, and encouraged (conspired?) with other people to do the same. Then to say that it does not matter as it is a company, not an individual, as a form of defence... well..... actually.... in law that is not a defence!

Also in law, ignorance of the law is no defence.

I don't think derby house are whiter than white either to be honest! Last month I Bought a pair of leather boots for the excellent ( correct) price of £49.99
This month the exact same boots were on derby house sale page at the bargain price of £200 having been reduced from £350!!
They were never £350 in first place!

I also purchased a zebra fly sheet from them for £20, this month they had a sale price of £35 reduced from £75.00! They were never £75 in the first place!

I've seen derby house do this on several occasions, marking up goods and then CLAIMING to be a bargain price.

They are pretty good in the fraud department themselves

If you have those details you can report them to advertising standards. Citizens Advice can help if you have lost out. They do both take action. Many big companies have fallen foul of the law. Integrity and honour have to be maintained on both sides!

They also sell on eBay as a private seller with a username that is no way recognisable until you 'win' an item and it comes in their packaging with a pre printed label on from Newtyle Trading Company
