Absolute IDIOTS!!!!

Another well done to you for stopping. I was a. expecting you to write so I drove past, or b. that it would be flagged up as a troll post. Could not believe my eyes when I saw the photo. You are so brave to of confronted them, and again well done!!

good woman! complete respect for you for pulling them over. Hope the other agencies now have the same nerve that you did in dealing with them!

Completely commend you for stopping, and admire your bravery and luck that all you got was abuse!

Am really suprised though that people aren't much more aware that this happens? This is normal ***** pony transport in my experience.... :o

You are being naive! This will be the usual way they move the horses from place to place, when they cannot be bothered walking alongside them or have no access to a trailer, these type of horses are quick learners and conditioned to go along with what is asked without arguing, they will know only too well the consequences of not. :(

Ah, thats alright then. The horses are quick learners but its still unsafe and illegal. Particularly with no insurance.

There's lots of abuse going on, but to ignore is to condone. It takes guts to stand up and stop this kind of mistreatment, well done Lea840.

My goodness, sending you a virtual bravery award! Thank you for standing up for those poor horses. Sadly as others have said, we will be lucky if those idiots even get a slap on the wrist, but at the very least, they might, just might think twice before doing this again.

Good on your for taking action, not an easy thing to do anyway but with travellers as well, you were a blooming brave lady it must be said.

I'll bite my tongue before I say anymore.

Well done for taking action! So many people would have ignored it.

Lets hope the police follow through on this one.

I wasn't condoning it in any way! Sadly, and whilst trying to be politically correct and not saying too much, these types treat their horses this way and think nothing of it. Either the horses learn quickly to conform or they get dragged, they learn to be ridden with a rope through the mouth or they get beaten. Whether they are insured or not it is out and out abuse, unfortunately the powers that be seem unwilling (or too scared?) to take action to stop this sort of treatment from this group!

Good heavens one brave person or fool hardy taking on that many on your own. Congratulations for not turning a blind eye. Not sure I would have had the guts to do what you did. Hope the out come for the horses was a good one.

Good on you! Very brave. I don't know if I'd have had the courage to stop them, although I'm sure I'd have called the police. I think you don't know quite how you'll react until you're in the situation. Let's hope the welfare person is a tough one!

WELL DONE - I was totally shocked to read about it and then to see the picture - those poor horses - good for you for stopping them - what amazes me is how many other people have probably driven by but are prepared to look the other way !!!!!!!!!!

wow! you are very brave, hope they get their comupance. I have seen horses lead from horse drawn carts before but this was done carefully by caring people, not foul mouthed plonkers !

Well done for your actions but please take down that picture....if it goes to court you are jeopardising the success of a case as the van, area and one of the men are easily identifiable!!

OP, are you in the Midlands? It's Stow Fair this week, so the pic saddens me greatly but doesn't surprise me.

I will just echo what everybody else is saying. What a very brave person you are! Very well done.

Gypsys by any chance? Ah what lovely folk they are..........

and well done you, I can only imagine the obscene language that was flying out of their mouths

Wow- well idiots is not the word I would use!
Well done on you by doing something about, and I hope they get taken away by the welfare officier and found a nice home, the poor poor things :(

Thanks guys... I can honestly say hand on heart that I don't know where my balls of steel came from today, I think it was the point where the pony went down on his knees and was dragged... The red mist came down and there was no stopping me, I have never felt that feeling since I was in the Police and dealing with some of the biggest numptys out there... Although this time I hand no back up from a colleague, or CS spray or a stabby or anything really to back me up!! I think the men were SO suprised that I stopped them in their tracks and totally refused to move and very clearly told them I was on the phone to the Police!

Not sure who mentioned it and asked if I was in the Midlands but no, I'm in the North West...

I'm glad I stood up for those ponies today even if it was risky in as much as the situatoin could of turned against me,... but i'm glad the Police actually took action when I asked for it...

I havn't heard from the Police since but I guess the officers who dealt with it will have finished their shift around tea time so I will give the station a call tomorrow and get an update...

I guess the only down side to this is that I own quite a large transport company which have VERY distinctive vehicles on its fleet and I was in a work vehicle at the time (sadly not one of the horseboxes or I would of loaded them up and whisked them away) but my company stands out from the crowd... I just hope that they were TOO schocked to note the name of the company as I was only a mile away from home when I saw this happen... *Think i'll set the CCTV recording tonight just incase*

And yes... I would of thought TROLL too after reading this but I was quick enough to get my mobile out and take a photo of them... all I was thinking was... Court... Evidence!!

You own a large fleet? Tell the boys (and girls) what happened with these 'characters' and to keep an eye out. Chances are, the morons with the ponies wouldn't risk any retribution - they have too much to lose.

Lea840, just wanted to echo what everyone else has said: RESPECT TO YOU! I have tears in my eyes for those poor ponies. 'Having to get used to' that sort of treatment is beyond sad.

Please let us know if you find out any more about what happened to the ponies.
