South Wales ponies needing homes

Experienced, loving homes will soon be required for the semi feral ponies. These ponies, ranging from Section A's to D's, mares, mares with foals and stallions are at the moment living wild on a South Wales Common. They have been signed over by their owners and it is planned to round them up and rehome as many as possible. Negotiations are still taking place t...o geld the stallions but if homes are not found, unfortunately they will probably be culled.

It has been proved numerous times, that these ponies can make wonderful riding ponies in the right hands.

If my parents could afford it, they definitely would have bought one, but they can barely afford Danny, the livery is so expensive!
Danny came from a common- probably that one, and I know his parents would be in that herd.
If only there was a field locally that my parents could use for cheap! It'd be heartbreaking to think that they'd be killed. :(
Ugh, I want one so badly! I don't care if it's wild, I can work with it, and even if I can't, I think it'd rather be happy in a field than killed! D:

I dont see the issue in the same way, there are tens of thousands of unwanted thoughtlessly bred horses roaming the country esp in Wales and Ireland. The numbers just have to be brought down for the welfare of the horses, and in some cases the horses are being illegally dumped to graze on land that belongs to other people.

A humane cull is sadly the point it has reached and the horse doesnt have a concept of worrying about things it doesnt know about.

There is no cruelty in what is planned, the cruelty lies in those continuing to breed without a market for the foals and also anyone who takes on horses due to feeling sorry for them without having a secure lifetime home for them (not you but some people do and they end up having to be seized as welfare cases).

I can see it must be very hard thinking your boys sire/dam might be among them, but they will live on through him.

Very well said.

I do agree with you all- over breeding is an issue. And perhaps in today's modern society people just aren't that interested in horses anymore and/or can't afford it.
I think people should have a licence to breed animals, and should only be able to get the licence if breeding for proper reasons, not to see cute fluffy babies and then lose interest as they realise what hard work raising baby animals are.
I don't think these horses deserve to die because of a breeder's ignorance, I really hope the majority of them gets rehomed in forever loving homes.
