Hi - regular user using an anon account to post this - hope no one minds.
My friend and I were buying a horse off a couple. Horse was staying at the same yard with us just taking over the rent for the stable. We were paying the full asking price in installments as this agreement was offered to us. We were due to make the final payment and transfer the passport next week.
The horse is actually owned by the hubby, and the wife also has a horse on the yard.
The wife has mental health issues, and she's gone totally bat **** crazy today, accused us of not caring for him because we changed to a young rogue farrier who hot shoes, rather than their retired mate who they use and who cold shoes badly IMHO, deep littered his bed as there were no rubber mats, took him off sugar beet as it was giving him diarrhoea, and were going to call in the 'back man' on advice of BHS instructor - he has been lame under saddle/stiff on and off since we bought him.
He wasn't vetted, but soon became sound with regular low level work and some glucosamine. Instructor said he wasn't truly lame, just stiff and bridle lame, but that back man should be called in to be on the safe side. We had also lined up saddler and dentist.
Anyway, she just lost it and was ranting and being vicious, contradicting herself constantly, and showing herself to be extremely ignorant and resistant to change / research / learning.
She flat out refused to sell and was shouting 'I've got the passport, Stop saying you own him, he's mine he's mine!' We were due to make final payment for him and transfer passport next week. Hubby is going along with her for a quiet life - can't say I blame him after her performance today!
She offered us full loan but we had to keep him in the way she said, cancel back man, go back to previous farrier etc
Thing is she knows nothing, is scared of her own horse, hasn't had vet/dentist/saddler or wormed them for over 6 years, and thinks the poverty lines on her underweight ribby horse are just a sign that he has good muscle definition. She was actually insulted that we had arranged for him to be seen by the various professionals - wtf???
So we had no choice but to walk away from the whole thing, and put it down to experience - absolutely gutted
