So much for 2008 being better than 2007. After having been told that my vet is very pleased with Maiden's progress and I can start walking her in-hand at the end of next month, I got to the field this morning to find one very, very lame pony. She's ok uphill in trot, but on a circle, downhill, or anywhere in walk she's really obviously lame. She's also standing with her heel slightly raised off the ground as she did this time last year when she tore her tendon in the first place (well, second time).
Vet came out and was hopeful for an abscess or bruise, but seeing Maiden walk and trot up and me telling her what she's been like this year and last, we're pretty sure she's aggravated the tendon again last night by running around in the wind. Darcy (4yo) looks awful today so they've obviously been up to something. Vet did find a little bit of white line disease and scraped the dead tissue out, washed it out and plugged it with cotton wool. I am now armed with hydrogen peroxide, purple spray, tonnes of cotton wool, and a small bit of hoof putty so I can keep cleaning it out for the next few days and then plug it once it's clean. TBH we're clutching at straws though.
So I really need some HHO vibes and crossed fingers if possible, for the bute to work and for the girls to settle down, and then next Monday or Tuesday vet will re-assess. It's likely Maiden will need the rest of the year off though at least, and it's also likely she'll now never be ridden again.
One very gutted Sil.
