She has bought a 6 month old filly
shocked.gif
. So far all seems normal-why shouldnt she? My friend has never had a horse in her life, knows absolutely nothing about equines and has bought the filly via internet
crazy.gif
. The filly was advertised on a website here in Italy but is currently in Holland. Shes a Friesian and has no docs-they are under 'creation' in Holland
smirk.gif
. Price? £3500 euros including transport. The filly will be stabled in a run down byre and will have a goat for company
frown.gif
Will someone please tell me that none of this is true! I am so angry with her, she seems to think that her and the filly can 'learn together' and that she will be able to 'mould' her to become a soul mate. Im really freaked out with this potentially dangerous way of thinking. Ive tried in every way possible to stop her but to no avail. I suppose I will be around to 'pick up the pieces' when the [****] hits the fan-as it will. I feel sick to the stomach :mad. I dont feel any better having had my little rant

Book her in for a brain transplant .Friesans arent the easiest of horses take a long while to grow up and a mare too.Recipe for disaster no wonder you are mas and ranting. Sounds like she is going to need a lot of support.Good Luck

I think if there was a prize for most shocking post on HHO, you might well be nominated for this one!

WHAT ON EARTH IS SHE THINKING??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodness!

Now you know I have no qualms about my novice liveries buying young QHs as they are under guidance here, and QHs are a total breeze to bring up. However a Friesian?!
crazy.gif
I've had a couple of Friesians stay on my previous yard and although they were pretty easy going, and their owners were novicey-ish, there were definitely issues going to arise at some point in the future, I could see it, as the owners were just not up enough on how to deal with these horses. It's one thing not being able to cope with a dinky little QH, it's quite another a Friesian.

Silly choice if you ask me; but strokes for folks; just hope she has someone around who can help her.

I told a white lie
blush.gif
. They did have a donkey colt for a while but got rid of when he began to bite and kick-he was sold to a dodgy dealer and will have been passed from pillar to post. I sincerely hope he is 'no longer'.
I am now practising on keeping my big gob shut so that if and when she needs help etc she will call on me and not some dickhead of an Italian 'horseman/whisperer. God give me strength...!

are you sure it wasn't £35 and a toy horse? I cant believe someone who knows nothing about horses has bough a Friesian foal ... sorry i have no useful advice, am just gobsmacked. Also i think she has too much money and time on her hands and should send me said foal whilst also doing my uni work

Good luck with this one, keep us updated on how it goes.

Edited due to spelling oops

on a par to the lady i used to work with.....

thought it would be a good idea to replace her car with a driving outfit to reduce her carbon footprint......

couldn't understand why it didn't just "take her to where she wanted to go"!!!!!

one born every minute, Mairi.

oh dear. i really hope the filly doesn't suffer and your friend doesn't get hurt, that's all i can say... and try to be supportive. you never know, it may just never turn up, turn up to be a huge rip-off... possibly the first time i've ever hoped for that to happen to anyone!

Unbelieveable.

Maybe you could tell her to come on here and read some posts about the expense and all the problems she will get etc etc.

Why don't people have to do tests before they mess around wih horses lifes and mess them up!

Sadly a situation that arises far too frequently, it must be gutting when it is a friend though. Just hope someone (probably you) can help get this poor filly a reasonable quality of life.

This response isn't aimed at somethingorother but at the thread in general.

Not sure what difference it makes to the breed of the horse when they know nothing about equines at all anyway! Whilst I agree some will be easier to handle and bring up than others, they know nothing about anything so surely the point of the original post is that they've bought an animal they don't know how to look after or understand what it's educational needs will be now and in the future.

Wondering as it's been bought over the internet , as reading between the lines 'sight unseen' if it will even be a real horse and not just some kind of scam?

Well its not so bad - if it doesn't work out she can always eat the horse!

Didn't like the stories (I think) you posted about owners finding just parts of their horses left... cannot think of anything worse!

I didn't mean it specifically in regards to a Friesian. I clearly very much disagree with any purchasing of animals without knowing what you are doing, but even novice or intermediate owners would be very much unsuitable for a foal and the fact it's going to be a big strapping Freisian just makes it even worse. Obviously i understand the point of the original post. I was trying to keep it short for once instead of going on a rant, as i didnt think much more needed to be said. But here we are anyway

years ago a friend of my mums (i was about 8) went to ashford market to buy her novice child ( also 8 )a pony , kid had only ridden 6 or 7 times on lead at treking centre , mum had no knowledge of the care of horses at all , anyways instead of one pony she bought 6 foals from a dealer outside of the ring , all of them were taken from mum that day , none halter broken or handled , she rang my mum who was horrified and told her that the dealer was delivering them late that night , mum did all she could to try and stop it but the friend was oblivious , mum offered to drive over and help when they arrived but the friend just laughed and said ........ how hard can 6 little foals be to look after , ive had dogs and puppies for years ......
to cut a long story short the stupid woman hearded them all into barn , dealer left , she then gave all the foals a good drink of warm cows milk
by morning the vet was very angry , the woman was angry at loss of 3 foals and a large vet bill , her daughter was crying and my mum took the remaining 3 foals to an equine charity later that day

may i ask where she got it from wasnt horsesfor all /us cause to me they seem very dodgy
i may be wrong but be very careful also you need to check documents out and need to put everything in her name you got to pay for the papers , youve got to be a member of a socierty etc and now you need to put her name onto passport as well as papers
i think it stupid of your friend to have brought any kind of horse specialy a filly and the age too knowing nothing about equines
good luck if she needs to sell it i take it off her hands and i pay to have in transported down to me
