If someone on your yard wrote you an abusive letter accusing you of various things, would you be justified in asking them to leave the yard ? Trying to get an unbiased view here. Obviously cant go into specifics, but we have a yard committee which is supposed to deal with this sort of thing, but seem strangely reluctant. Extremely nasty atmosphere now on yard
 
If it's your place to ask people to leave then yes, but if not then you may be jeoperdising your own position on the yard

Can you not go to the yard owner if the committee are not doing their job? But I presume the idea of the committee is that no one person gets to make all the decisions that affect everyone. If this is a personal dispute you may find it difficult to justify your actions.
 
Not personal to me, but have seen said letter and makes various unsubstantiated allegations. Trying to find out how others would react. Committee formed as yard owner not inetrested in yard politics, making for extremeley difficult situation.
 
It's difficult with the YO not being interested in yard politics. This situation, when the yard is governed by 'committee' causes loads of problems. You can develop rival factions who only vote in favor of their ideas & vote against ideas coming from another faction. The YO needs to be involved & be in a position to make the final decision in many things & certainly if someone is to be asked to leave. After all when someone leaves it affects the income from the yard.
 
From a purely management perspective what are your responsibilities, those of the committee and those of YO in the event of a dispute?

If statements made are untrue I would deal with them one by one - is there a misunderstanding? or are the statements malicious?

I would then deal with them point by point and put something in writing to YO.
 
I dont have any responsibilities, I am trying to get advice for someone who is not on line. The policy is all disputes to be taken to committee which did not happen,should have said would person be justified in expecting committee to ask person concerned to leave yard or would it be overreaction.
Feel like im always on the forum lately ! However have no horsey family to bounce things off
 
Damn if I was my yard supervisor I would want a triple figure salary to deal with conflict!

If I was in that position though I would reply to the letter politely and calmly and post both letters for the Committee and the owner to discuss and like in most Grievance situations let the Committee and the owner sort it out as you are too close the situation to be constructive.

and Kangaroo courts.

Sounds like a right old mess.
 
Hoffy - are you paid by YO as a 'Supervisor', if so you must have a contract of employment which defines your job and your responsibilities.

It is intolerable for you to be caught up in this with no clear course of action. I hope your YO does listen and advise you or deal with the person who sent this letter.
 
Hoffy if you are on the committee then you have an obligation to get the others to talk to the person making the allergations and then listen to the other side. Then the committee must make the decision. If you are not on the committee leave well alone and distance yourself from any of that decision making.
