Has anyone with coccyx issues tried both types & how did they compare?
I get a bruised coccyx when on long hacks & I’m not sure if it would be best to have the gel all over or have the cut out bit. The cut out doesn’t look deep so I’m worried it will just hit the saddle in which case I’d get the gel all over.

Also, I’ve only seen jump/dressage sizes. Is the dressage ok for GP saddle?
Thank you 😊

I have seen people say that the gel pads have damaged their saddle so be careful

I think there are two things to bear in mind here - if you have a gel-in, there's a risk it might leave marks on the seat from where the gel is touching the leather. I don't know how you'd avoid that. I had a gel-out so no issue. Also, the straps that go under the panels and push in under the gullet - they can leave marks on the panels if they're too tight. I know a lot of people cut them off, but personally I chose the alternative fixing method of passing the straps under the flaps and then shoving them into the space under the stirrup bars. That kept the seat saver nice and secure without risking rubbing of the straps on the panels.

Can you change your saddle? Too narrow or domed a seat will impact a slightly longer coccxyx, made worse if anything about the saddle makes your pelvis tilt backwards. We really should be slightly on our pubic arch, supported in a neutral pelvis but very few riders get such a good fit and it can cause issues that we dismiss as "one of those things".

Agree with the comments about the gel in, the trouble is the gel out is SO sticky, I think for jumping you'd find it very restrictive which ultimately impacts on the horse.

When I had a damaged coccyx I bought a Torsion treeless saddle with thick pad under and that really helped. Sold it after I recovered.

My horse threw me last year and I fell on my coccyx and couldn't sit without excruciating pain for over 4 weeks. Could ride though after 2 days thanks to my Acavallo gel our ortho coccyx 😁

Dim question alert!

It comes in dressage and jump versions. Would I want the dressage one for a GP saddle?

Good question! I initially bought it for my dressage saddle and I thiiiink it is the dressage version, but it fits without problem on my gp as well. If my memory doesn't decieve me, I think the jump one is for gp and jump saddles and the dressage for dressage saddles.

I have ordered the pubis version. The shop told me I needed the large for my 17.5” square cantled (semi) jump Jeffries F1 saddle. They said the medium would be too small on a square cantle and the dressage the wrong shape.
Mine, when it comes will be large pubis gel in jump. Fingers crossed it is fine.

edit .. to add.. It has taken long enough to get a saddle that fits the pony and nearly fits me so I’m not worried whether the gel marks the saddle.

edit.. just realised this thread is a little elderly.
