Hi, I have had the heather Moffat seat saver for years and combined with sticky jods it's great. However I am thinking of getting the acavallo one as it protects the saddle pommol and also hoping it will be softer on my back, but do I go for gel in or out?? Worried the gel out will be too sticky with sticky jods, but will gel in give as much traction as hm as don't want less? Also will gel in mark saddle?? Thanks to anyone who can help... Hot choc today!!

Hi ive had a dilemma with seat savers for a while now  im riding in a dressage saddle all the time to help my position as i tend to collapse on the right and the HM is awful -i think its filling the seat too much so instead of being in the seat im a bit perched .i bought a really expensive sheepskin seat saver with a bit of HM stuff in it and thats brill except it just wont stay on my saddle! i borrowed a acavallo gel out and it was very good for sticking me in place -but didnt have enough comfort factor for my poor back!! theyre all different and all alter the fit of the saddle seat so dont waste your money until you can try them!

Hi, thanks for your reply, did you try the gel out with sticky jods? Were you too stuck?! :-) know what you mean about the hm, it also makes the twist of my saddle wider which is wide enough already on a large cob! :-D

I've got the gel-out seat saver and love it! :D

I always wear full-seat johds and find myself very secure in the saddle when doing my extentions and my friend borrowed it to try on her jumping saddle and said she felt sooo comfy and safe.

I have tried the sheepskin ones before and actualy find the acavallo one more comfortable and in the heat my bum doesn't over-heat any more ;)

Another good thing about the acavallo one is that it can hardly be seen once your in the saddle.

This is a pic of me using the gel-out seat saver a few weekends ago

I tried a couple of different ones and cant remember if the acavello had the silly straps that somehow wedge under the panel?? If its the one, how have those who have it managed. I nearly broke the plastic clip thingy off trying to stretch it to fit, then the clip was on an angle and stuck out a bit and I thought it could stick in my boys back. Needless to say I sent it back :(

It is the acavello one and personally I have had no problems with fitting it! I just followed the diagrams on the packaging and it took me less than a minute, and I've taken ot off to switch saddles and cleaned it at least half a dozen times

Thanks, sorry to hijack post
The elastic didnt seem long enough on mine and would barely reach. I was gutted as I really wanted one. I do have a Jaguar Saddle which has funny shaped panels, maybe that was the problem?

Maybe  I've got a keiffer dressage saddle and just stretched the elastic in a straight line and pushed the plasitic as far under the panel as possible until I could feel the end slot in and become secure.
I didn't really think about it too much it was just simple so maybe I was a problem with the shape of the panels  ?

Gel does leave a residue on the saddle, but I don't care, I have a bony bum and love my acavallo seatsaver. Heather Moffet one I can't stand, found it too grippy and its designed to seat you closer to the front of the saddle to give a better stirrup bar alignment for dressage which I found didn't suit me. Acavallo gel in provides less grip than HM but I consider that a good thing!

Thanks everyone I have just bought a second hand gel out from eBay, would probably have preferred gel in but it was a good price so have taken a chance and hope it's not too sticky!! Will update, and Romany if it's yours then thanks and will pay in morning when on my pc! :-)

Yard geek do you not feel too stuck?? Does hair stick to it easily? Am watching yours Romany!! ;-)

TBH no, I can rise to the trot easily and can dismount fairly elegantly ;)
As far as keeping it clean goes, yes it does get quite alot stuck to it BUT I always use a saddle cover and if dirty just wipe it over with a wet-wipe and it's good as new :D

Yes thats what I tried to do but they werent long enough, the elastic was stretched to breaking point  Ah well... thanks

Yes was mine, my son stopped jumping and it was wasted just hacking and schooling, stopped jumping cos horse got slight arthritis. Cheers, glad its going to good home.

I had a acavallo one - gel in - and it transformed a super uncomfortable saddle into one I was happy to hack in for a couple of hours. Easy to fit, easy to remove. Doesn't move at all. Highly recommend it.

If it gets hairy just hoover it!
