I have had one hip replacement however my other hip has got worse recently due to osteoarthritis. I currently ride with a Heather Moffatt seat saver but I am wondering if an Acavallo one may be better at reducing the pain. There seem to be several different versions and I’m not sure which one to go for. I sent the company a message but got no reply. I was thinking of a gel in one as I also struggle to get on and I don’t think the gel would help!!

I bought one as I had a really sore lower back but only used it a few times as chiropractor sorted my back out for me. I really need to sell mine as don’t think I will ever use it again!

I have the gel out one and love it. Its definitely sticky, particularly getting off now I’m not so nimble. But it helps me keep my seat with a spooky horse, not sure the gel in would do that.

Fortunately my cob is not spooky. (famous last words!)

I have a gel in one as didn’t like the sticky seat with my breeches and heard it made rising trot uncomfortable. So went for the gel in, I even got one for my spare saddle and swear by it they are so comfortable and does help you sit in the saddle better but not sure how good they are for hips or back problems, two people on the yard followed suit and bought the same one we are all in our sixties so they were very relevant for our age group. Luckily I don’t have a spooky horse now. try sitting on one in the saddlers wearing the jods you ride in and get the feel of it before you buy one

I have arthritis in my hips and use the gel out on both saddles and find them really comfortable. I also use Acavallo Opera stirrups which seem to help with knees and ankles. Anything to make riding easier ? I also get on and off from a good old fashioned stone mounting block so no jumping down which doesn’t do the old joints any good at all.

Gel out really helps my dodgy spine and comfort in general. As my dismount is an inelegant slither most of the times these days, the gel out does not affect it much.

As far as I can see the options for the Avacallo seat savers are either dressage or jump. Which would be best for a GP saddle?

I haven’t compared the avacallo to heather moffat but I love mine!
I like the gel in as I don’t like the feel of gel out, but even the suedey feel does make me stick better. Not like on a polished saddle seat.

If you are buying from avacallo website, jump is the one that fits a GP saddle.

I have the gel out on both saddles. The stickiness does fade over time.
In fact, I forgot just how sticky there were until I got my new one for another saddle and literally had to fling myself away from it to get off.

I have an unstable coccyx and can’t ride without some sort of cushioning. The gel out seems to work for me.

I’ve got a gel out and love it. However I don’t use it for schooling or jumping as i tend to ride wearing sticky bum breeches and I can’t move at all.
Always wear it out hacking for extra security.

Everyone seems to love gel out but I can not stand the feel of it.
I don’t like sticky breeches either but I do own 2 pairs as I loved the design but they weren’t available unsticky...

the gel in one paired with suede seated breeches or sticky breeches definitely adds an extra layer of security than just a saddle seat alone. I wouldn’t be without one
