Hi all again, following on from my question about stirrups I'm interested in the claim that Acavello gel seat Savers can reduce back pain?? Anyone got any experience of this / using them????

I have the gel out on both my saddles and I also have Acavallo opera stirrups so the set up is the same on both horses. Wouldn't be without them as I have dodgy hips and knees and find the extra cushioning works well for my arthritic joints.

I have the ortho one and personally I didn't notice a difference. My back pain was due to injury though rather than ongoing issue so not sure if that is why?

Three months ago after nearly 60 years of riding, I was on the verge of giving up because pain from an old ankle injury and lower back, hip and knee pain had become intolerable. In desperation I did some research and bought MDC sport stirrups and an Acavallo gel out seat saver. I hack for at least an hour daily and can now do so with very little pain (and dismount properly again without anything giving way!)
For me, this was money very well spent but I suspect that everyone needs to find out just what works for them, so if you can, borrow one to try first.

Agree that MDC stirrups are brilliant.
I’m not the biggest fan of Heather Moffetts but her seat savers are very good and can be found second hand for a reasonable price.

Yes and no, depends I think on what sort of back pain you have. I have used one for the last couple of years and it definitely does make an ordinary saddle more comfy, just a slight give at the base of your spine. I have however, just bought a treeless western saddle to hack out in as I was struggling to sit for more than an hour without my back aching. Obviously you sit slightly differently in a western saddle anyway and so far, so good, for hacking longer than an hour I prefer this set up

This is really interesting Lindy, thank you. I asked about the Opera stirrups on previous post. Essentially, after repeated abdominal surgeries I've been left with chronic pain syndrome that manifests mainly in my back, neck and sometimes down my legs. Plus a very, very weak core. So.... After soldiering on for last couple if years its finally dawned on me that there might be stuff out there to help 🤣🤣 I've ordered a pair of Compositi Reflex stirrups on advice but was also asking about Opera and Tekna Flex Tek ones.

Thank you very much

I have one but mainly for my seat bones due to the lack of lard covering them! Not sure if does much for my back pain. Stirrup wise I use Heather Moffett wide treads with cages which really do help with back and leg pain.

I have one from a previous naughty horsie who would spin, and it did help to stick me into the saddle. I can't say I noticed it helping my back though.

With my back, if I am having an episode I wear a back support, like the Prolite ones. Sadly they don't seem to sell them any more, although a few shops had them in stock when I bought a larger one (!) last year!

I use the Sprenger stirrups with a twist. The ones with the blue. They were on offer on Amazon, got £70 off.
