Eventful day yesterday.....working on fitness for me and horse as we have our first BE event in 3 weeks so off I went on our usual route. This consists of crossing a road and then offroad for miles and after about a mile there is a very accommodating farmer who leaves a grassed area around a couple of very large fields for horses to use :D

I was on a tight timescale and had a new pair of jodhs on. Got horse ready and then noticed nowhere to keep phone - just wearing jodhs, t-shirt and hi-vis vest. So, ever the 'classy lady' I popped my phone in my bra  as I try to never hack without.

Anyway, long story short, we were galloping around said field - couple of laps down and Baz still taking a real hold (so on positive side, no real fitness concerns then!) and he overshot a corner and ended up in some rough grass and then a small ditch where we abrubtly came to a halt and parted company. All OK, thankfully, but my phone went flying in the process. Been back and hunted all over for it but no trace and just going to voicemail.

Now, I am not one to dwell on what might have been BUT it could have been so much worse and I would have been stranded without a phone. I have also dropped phones out of pockets previously and also cracked a screen jumping with it in my jodhs. So, is there a completely fool-proof method of carrying a mobile? I'm thinking especially during summer when it is so hot and jackets with lots of pockets are not an option.

For summer I have a small bum bag to carry phone, lypsyl, keys etc. Come winter not a problem as keep these in coat pockets.

The only time I have fallen off on a hack when on my own, I landed on my phone and broke it!!!!!

Eek, glad you're ok!
I think the polite hi viz vests have pockets?
Today was boiling so I had to raid the cupboards and used one of those bags that you clip around your waist (bum bag?!!) - absolutely hate wearing them and find them quite annoying but much better than carrying no phone! Also good for snacks / gate keys etc ;)
In the winter my hi-viz jacket has pockets so pop my phone in there.

Where do I keep my phone? In the car!!

I know, I know!! But I just forget it - especially in the summer when wearing no coat (pretty much always remember to pop it in the pocket when wearing a coat!). I have tried all sorts of bum bags (get in the way), camera case (worried that the strap would catch on something), but I just can't get into the habit :( I have a clip on my phone case, which would clip onto the belt loop of your jods - but my summer ones don't have belt loops!!

Any perfect solutions?!!

PS: Have heard that it is not good to keep in your bra!! (cancer risk?) (not that there's any room in mine!! ;) )

I have a phone holder that straps around my arm. Got it off Play.com. Great for summer riding. In winter it goes in a coat pocket.

We're both OK.

Phone call afterwards from home to OH who was out with my little boy was quite amusing (in a dark way!); went along the lines of "thought I'd better call as I've lost my phone and if you were trying to get hold of me you might be worried I was dead in a ditch somewhere.......well, I was in a ditch...but I'm still alive". Was greeted by stunned silence - and then lots of swearing about my stupidity and xxxxxxxx horses.

Seriously though I think there may be a gap in the market for a protective phone holder that could be attached somewhere or padded pocket in a hi-vis vest. It's not a problem in colder weather but when its warm it can be....

...off to do some internet research....

I knew someone who fell off, had the phone in a hip pocket and landed on it. She broke her thigh and the doctor said it was because of the phone.

In the summer, either a pocket in my jods or I have a really thin Toggi gilet that has pocket on the inside that my phone goes in, I don't feel too hot in that either.

I always ride in my gillet that has pockets to take phone, keysand anything else I can't leave at the field in. Sometimes gets a bit warm in the summer but have a lightweight one for hotter days. Daughter quite often wants to stop for an icecream so very often have my purse with me too!

I went into go outdoors and they sell tiny little bum bags literally a webbing belt with a small slim pouch on can hold iPhone, tissue and lip balm. Spi belt is similar. You dont know it's on and it all zips away safely.

I've always kept mine in a little pouch which attaches to a belt on my waist. It basically sits in the small of my back, to the right hand side basically.

Yesterday was having a hoon; friend was with me, both horses were in fruitloop mode and started bucking and broncing. We both fell off (at the same time!!!) - I landed on my bum RH side, and now have a huge bruise the same shape as my mobile phone :( Don't love my horse any more!!

Dunno where the best place to keep it is tho'.

I put mine between a normal bra and the sports bra thing i put on top when riding, or my boot. i did nearly break it in my boot once- got too close to a tree and squished it!

Iv been worrying about this ever since i got my new phone as its too big to fit in jodhs!
On hot days i have almost passed out because i had to hack out with a coat on!
Does anyone know where i can get a lightweight hi vis with zip up pockets that arnt the polite range?

I have a really tough case for my phone which it lives in (iphone and otterbox case). Then for riding I bought a polite tabbard as it has a zipped pocket that is actually big enough for said phone inside its case. I also have the find iphone app installed in case I do loose it (and it does work). I don't really do any roadwork but it means walkers / cyclists / people shooting deer etc in the woods can see me. In winter I wear my equafleece bright yellow fleece jacket which has zipped pockets. There are also heaps of case things on ebay that velcro round your arm or leg. Finally, for pleasure rides I use a bum bag :-)

For those who stick it down their bra :p

Personally I can't imagine putting it there, what happens when you get sweaty?!

Or you get a call;
''hang on a min, my boobs are calling/vibrating!!''

Nah, doesn't sit well with me either! lol

(The OP said something along the lines of wearing just a t-shirt and a hi-viz vest, I was like 'eh, in THIS weather - are you mad or not from the UK... doh, tis an old post!!)
