Unfortunately not many as most of the people with race mares dont send you pictures.

I broke in my own Accondy and he was great - very quick learner and exceptionally smart (sometimes too smart for his own good!) Like yours, it is into everything - opens doors/gates, takes headcollars and rugs off other horses in the field and can untie a rope quicker than Houdini!

Think they can be quite quirky - have seen a few racing and they all seem to be very highly strung. I think they actually take quite a long time to grow up as mine is now 7 and has just stopped growing! He can be a bit daft and gets really wound up by stupid things when he's in the stable and gets really bad pre-comp nerves! But is generally an angel when he's out and about.

Hi,

I have broken-in two Accondy mare's. The first was very very easy and was broken-in within a matter of a couple of weeks, however now (a few years later) she is rather too laid back and you have to make her work!
The other had a parrot mouth and was a totally different kettle of fish. A lot of this will be down to her mouth. She too didn't want to work and would let you know that, however again, if I remember correctly she was again broken in quite quickly.
If your breaking-in your youngster and you know him/her then I don't think you'll have a problem (if you know what your doing) as they will already trust you, however don't let them walk all over you, remember to draw the line between the baby you once had and the horse that you now want. Just remember not to scare them when doing this.

Accondy was known for being sharp but it is an unusual trait for a Sadlers Wells stallion most including our own are known for there laid back temperaments.

which is why presumably they put Accondy's dam As You Desire Me to Saddlers Wells as I had a friend who really knew about TBs tell me that she was a notorious mare with a really nasty temper. Accondy himself never seemed to be much trouble to Doreen (but then she really knew her stuff as a stallion handler and producer) and many of his progeny thankfully take far more after Saddlers Wells, but when Accondy himself went to Ireland he obviously became too much for them very quickly with trajic results.

So i think with Accondy it may be something that comes from the dam line particularly as none of his brothers have ever been kept entire.

Got it in one!

I have been observing my 3yo carefully...waiting for signs of impending madness, but so far she is still very sensible, and has given me no problems.
Having said that, I am very strict with my horses...
