I know weigh tapes are good for monitoring weight gain or loss, but how accurate are they for estimating actual weight?

I only ask as I used one on my 15.3 TB boy to get a rough guess, just under 500kgs...however my 14.1 mare was weighed on the weigh bridge at RVC and was exactly 445kgs.....

Although he's a lot bigger than she is that's not a huge difference in weight, I would have thought he'd be heavier....although she is broad and he is narrow. Does that sound about right?

I'm trying to work out what weights I have so I can have a firmer idea on payload for when I start looking at boxes.

I weighed Murphy at a racing yard about 18 months ago (yes, the jockeys were amused by me weighing my hairy 14.1hh coblet!!) and their weighbridge thing said 500kg, at the time the weightape was showing 470kg.

I have a 16 2 chunky TB and he weighs about 550 - 560 kg when he is at his ideal weight.
I weighed him at the RVC several times as it's right by the holding box.
I compared to a weight tape and for him he consistently came out as lighter on the weight tape.

not very accuarate at all! collected one from vets, who want horse to loose 100kgs. on the weigh bridge it weighed 584 kg and on the tape weighed(measured) 490 kgs. and he doesnt look fat or feel fat as he is and will look like a runner bean when dropped the weight!!

Well all I know is that I had my Cob weighed at the vets on proper scales and he was 540kg, and on the weight tape he was 550kg, so really quite accurate for him.
