Hi everyone,

Can someone please tell me the recomended acerage per horse, years ago when I did my bhs it was always guided at 1 acre for the first horse then half acre per horse after. Is it still the same? need to settle an argument. Thanks

Ditto - 1 1/2 acres for first horse, then another 1 acre per horse.

This was what I was taught a long time ago in PC, so don't think it has changed recently.

I was always taught to see what the land could produce and judge how much to feed on the condition of the horse

I would say that this is your best answer, I don't know a lot, but Dry Rot does! I was always taught an acre per horse, but that doesn't take into account good doers, fatties, poor doers, minis etc etc

BHS taught me what Pearlsasinger said. Experience has taught me what Dry Rot said. One acre will do for two good little good doers but five isn't enough to put weight on a thoroughbred. But that's just at our yard, others have better/worse grazing. Oh, and the land will support more if you poo pick and pull weeds :)
