2016 we found a great trainer and are actually improving now. 2017 I would like to move up from Prelim to novice and feel confident in doing so. Loved reading the posts in this thread!

2016 was a bit tough for me - I lost 4 animals within months of each other. Particularly hard were the loss of my beloved horse Joe and my cat of fifteen years, who we lost in terribly sad circumstances and I will never get over it.

But, my aim was to get my little mare out and about a bit and have a go at dressage, which we did! We just did Intro after having issues with her fitness and sustaining canter (which I've since found out is PSSM), managed some decent placings and some scores in the mid 70% bracket. I also discovered that she has no respect for jumping in arenas, and frankly can't see the point, but jump her in a field or take her out on a farm ride, she is an absolute little machine.

My aims for 2017- get control of her PSSM and move up to prelim.
Get my big lad to some dressage and see how far I can get with him (previous eventer who has had a string of serious injuries)
Shift half a stone. I'm now a size 12, after weight creeping on due to lupus medication, but my frame and height is better suited to a 10.

I've just spent an enjoyable time reading through everyone's posts - there are some very impressive achievements and fantastic photos throughout! Ours are fairly small-fry in comparison to some, but it's been a fun year.

Looking back at last year's post, I achieved my dressage aims with Indio :) We started the year at Prelim and became a fairly solid 70% combination, qualifying for Summer Regionals then moving up to Novice. Three weeks before the Regionals he went from feeling fantastic to feeling 'off', a quick look at his back showed he was very sore and had outgrown his saddles. A lot of money, two weeks of groundwork and a hurried warm-up show (photo below) and we headed to Mount Ballan. Despite the poor prep and me not really wanting to push too much, we gained a respectable 65% and valuable championship experience - neither of us had been to anything like that and I was somewhat starstruck when CDJ followed me into the office!

After 6 easy weeks, and still not feeling as good as he had before the sore back, we headed to Wellington for the Novice Areas. Indio was an absolute superstar, taking everything in his stride and getting 65% (again!) for 9th place. Next up was supposed to be the GBPRE champs but he pulled a muscle in the warmup at Sparsholt the week before so he's had an easy end to the year.

We also did some jumping, lots of hacking and the soppy beggar always needs a tonne of cuddles so we've had plenty of those too!

In January we brought Pocholo back over from Spain. I had no real plans for him other than to potter about, get his schooling going and get him muscled up again and hopefully get OH riding a bit more. We went to the Rockley Rehab Reunion camp at the end of September and Pocholo had so much fun that I decided to get him out competing again :) We headed out to a BD comp and easily got our qualifying scores for the GBPRE championship at Prelim, so Pocholo got to go to his first overnight show and first championship. He was a little overwhelmed but felt amazing, coming 5th with 68.3% :D

He's also been loving his jumping so I've taken him to his first jumping comps - a derby at Aston-Le-Walls (where we were eliminated but learnt a lot!) then unaffiliated 75 and 85 at Cherwell. I've not done any proper jumping in years so it's a learning curve for both of us!

Plans for next year are to solidify Indio's novice scores (we're currently changing his way of going) and hopefully get to Elementary. I'll continue to play around and have fun with Pocholo, and maybe have a go at some unaffiliated eventing :D

All photos have been bought with social media permission.

Lurker coming out of lurkerdom here :p

2016 started off with my beloved TB mare (K) becoming slightly lame, only slight enough for me to notice :( . After some vet visits and Xrays I found out she had (old) bone chips and boney changes in her near side fetlock, the off side fetlock being perfectly clean. After some nerve blocks, the lameness was pinpointed to her hoof, the action we have taken has thankfully led to her being sound. The vet is optimistic that the chips aren't a worry for the level I intend to compete her at. The six or so weeks off didn't do much for her figure :D So after we had sorted her out I started on the process of making her look more like an eventer again!

I had intended to get her out and compete her at 80cm events (the level we were ready for before she went lame). But we had such a terribly wet winter here, all the events I entered were cancelled. The only event we managed to get to was great - dressage score was the best ever (though still pretty abysmal :D red TB mare and calmness out doesn't go hand in hand, but she IS improving). Unfortunately pony decided the SJ was complete no go, and we were eliminated due to refusals. We did have a cracker of a XC round where K went around super confidently, so I wasn't too despondent - the SJ is something to work on this year!

Throughout the year I have been trying really hard to improve our dressage with heaps of lessons, and it worked! We can (almost) do a respectful dressage test out in public :D

A few months ago I did a crazy thing and acquired a SECOND red TB mare (E). She's just four, so I am messing around having fun and doing lots of hacking with her. She's a sweetheart and K is so happy to have her own red little sister to boss around :D Plans are for her to event as well, so we'll go to some baby events this year to get used to being an adult horse!

This year my aim for K is to actually get to some events, complete them and also look at moving up to prelim level (which is the limit I have set her). I don't care about places or ribbons, but will do my best to compete to the best of our ability, while keeping her happy and sound. Plus work on her SJ, because K has suddenly decided fillers are deathly horse traps...

It's been very enjoyable reading everyones aims, I hope all of you achieve what you set out to do! :)

I moved from Advanced Medium to Inter 1.

We've jumped more, gone to the gallops and the beach. We've started side saddle training and we've played with some arena XC (training only!).

He's kept his weight and his cool and seems happy.

The moment that drags everything down is losing my lovely cat just a few days ago. It's left a big hole but thankfully Fig keeps me smiling.

Next year we will fully contend at I1 and see where it takes us. In my head I have a lower pressure year planned with less competing.

In 2016 I qualified for 2016 & 2017 Royal international. And the Blue Chip finals for the 2nd time. Had a super year showing. But 2017 is the year my lovely horse does more of the things I think he really likes which is hunting, jumping and generally doing stuff which doesn't involve going round and round in a circle and being washed to within an inch of his life. The beach beckons this year.

2016 wasn't a good year in general, however I did get to realize 2 dreams.

I got to take my own best boy sidesaddle at Royal Welsh and I got to take a homebred section D to Royal Welsh as well and we came home with a ribbon.

2017 well... I'm reluctant to make plans because nothing ever goes how I want or plan. I'd like to do a HOYS qualifier or two.
Do more sidesaddle and get my maxi cob going. He was feral this time last year and he's level headed enough now to get going.
I'd like to do the senior stallion class at Royal Welsh with one of the boys but we'll see

Ah, I don't know where to start! 2016 Was a very turbulant year for me, with horses & Personal.

Coming into the year I had a newly broken 4yo and my trusty Gracie in her 5th year. My aim was to really have a smash at the age series, with hope of getting selected to jump in Lanaken at the end of the year ( Turns out now they didn't end up taking any 5yo's anyway but it was an aim!)

February was the worst month of my life, my lovely dad & Top fan was diagnosed with cancer and my whole entire world fell apart, obviously the horses took a huge back seat but him being the total hero he is was an absolute trooper, he stormed through chemo every day for 7 months and he just kept fighting and fighting then on 7th of november (My 21st birthday) We got the brilliant news that everything was under control and now he is on 3month scans and checks!

That didn't stop him supporting me though, he really is incredible. We had a few training sessions but no shows in this time but come the beggining of June I took Gracie to Northcote for the age classes. We had a brilliant show, she was green but we qualified for the GP and although I withdrew (She was really inexperianced) She jumped her heart out for me. So proud

My little 4yo had started going well. He's extremely sharp (Still is!) But he had started having a few jumps. He didn't pick things up as quick as Gracie so I had no intention of doing much with him as a 4yo.

Around July time I bought a 3yo. Cassini I bred gelding which is a bloodline I've always loved and wanted!

He just spent a few weeks/months out in the field eating grass and looking pretty!

Gracie jumped a few more shows through summer. Mainly BNs and Disco's. She was never unplaced, she's amazing.

Come august time I thought Rio was about ready for a little training show, we hired a few arenas and I was really pleased with how he was going. I took the plunge and entered him and Gracie for the Arena UK Major championships. Rio in 4s and a few BN's and Gracie in Discos & 5yos.
14021632_680454108775215_7298540371270704970_n.jpg

Arena UK was an amazing show for me. Rio was a total pro with just a few baby mistakes across the whole show and in the 4s he just got a really unfortunate run out at the 2nd part of the double as he'd jumped in too big, which i wasn't bothered about as for me it was more important he had a good experiance than scared himself.

Gracie once again placed in every class.

Rio went on holiday after this show, Gracie went to 1 more show where she came 2nd in both the Disco & 1.05. They both chilled out for the rest of the year!

Nemo's breaking process began. He hasn't been the easiest but is a really sweet horse who I love working with.

After reading most of these I don't really feel worthy posting but here goes:

2016: transformed totally uneducated 7 year old from being scared of poles and unable to walk, trot and canter in the school to jumping a small course and coming 30th out of 80 in Prelim dressage at a huge show his first time away from home properly! Progress was hindered by me being in the Falklands for 4 months and an initial lack of transport.

2017: build on last year's success and actually get out to clinics and competing with the hope to go ODEs and maybe a BE80 this year.

Missed this post - great to see everyone's achievements and fingers crossed for a good 2017 :)
I started the year riding mum's Yob of a coloured ISH 5yo, we got him going well, completed a couple of ODE's, were on the RC teams for Area SJ and HT, and managed to be on the winning team at the Regional SJ Champs which was fab and far more than was expected of him. After that a customer came for him and off he went.
My lovely Loll was still not quite right - fine in a straight line but not good on a circle, so after some tough discussions (and actually booking her in to be PTS :() we agreed to rehome her to some friends who can give her the extra time off she needs, then are hoping to either breed from her or bring her back into work this summer - we shall see but I wish them all the luck in the world with her :)
So onward and upward in September I went looking for a nice 6 or 7 yo gelding that I could get out and about competing on... came home with a just backed 4yo chestnut mare  She had a bit of time in the field to settle, then brought her in, lunged her for 5 minutes before hopping on and she's not looked back :D we've not made it out to a competition yet - we're someway off that, but she's had a couple of flat and jump lessons and a group RC session, and will keep that up through the winter with the aim of a spring debut, she has a rather extravagant movement which she's learning to control. Canter was "interesting" to start with but we're getting there.

Lanky Loll - good to see your catch up and may see you at RC thing one day but they always seem to clash with other things!

I aims for the year to have met as give myself time off competing as got a promotion at work that has taken up a lot of my time as meant a lot more hours on top of my normal hours doing training.
Now that is all done my plans for this year is to keep my veteran sound and happy and hopefully still pottering about on small hacks. If not then he can be a happy horse in the field for as long as he is comfortable.
Plan for loan pony is get out competing and to get over my nerves to be able to go and do some be80s

Main achievements:

-returning to the competition ring after transitioning to barefoot. making it to the ribbons in our first rated (affiliated) competition in over a year.
-moving to a new country
-surviving shipping fever and the shortest day of British winter
-a full year of no hoof-related lameness!

Goals:
-get back to competing, finally get past the 1.05m classes lol.
-don't look like a $hit-show in the bigger classes, make it more like an Eq round
-try cubbing/maybe hunting (we will see if princess arena puff takes to the rustic terrain)
-exorcise whatever ghosts live in a certain corner of the field I ride in

gosh ljsj - that's a heck of a year. Glad your pa is on the mend though. Lovely horses/pics.

Thank you, he is doing great! That was a whole story of a year in itself without every day life & the horses!

The year looks set to be even crazier we have just moved yards last Saturday and already riding and doing more every night- Exciting!

Had an amazing year :D Please to all those with wonky ponies take heart as mine was very wonky with injury for almost 2 years so you can sometimes turn it round :)

Qualified for pet plans at Prelim without realising
Qualified for ROR BD Champs winning both classes with our best scores at Intro and Prelim, then got 5th in the Intro at the champs, it was our first big comp and first stay away show and my little porse (pony horse, he is only a dinky 15.1) was a total legend :D It was a total blast and well worth the 6 hour drive, a kind friend took me and she wants to go again lol!
We did our first BD novice and smashed 64.5% (aimed for over 60%) :D
Had a ball out hacking and were a well behaved nanny to friends horse both hacking and then xc schooling
Went hunting again (as nanny) and jumped some stuff (brave pants on!)
We won a lovely rambo rug in a competition and its so nice I daren't use it (silly me)
We did a couple of fun rides and had a ball :D
I went showing as a groom for a friend and didn't pass out at all the standing around :D

Aims are to qualify for petplans at prelim and novice 1st round, be unreal to get to 2nd rounds but we'll see ;) Would love to try and qualify for winter regionals at prelim and also BD ROR champs again at prelim and novice
Going to try and do a little ODE at a nice local venue
More hunting
Must ride on the beach this year as so want to do it!
Maybe attempt some TARRA showing if there is time
Try a dressage music class or two
ROR camp
More fun with my happy little porse :D
