Hiya, i was just wondering if anyone has any experience of Achillies Tendon damage in horses? my mare has slipped hers off and i was just wondering if anyone has had this happen to theirs?
(i have had the vet out to her)
any help would be greatly appreciated :)

My friends mare damaged hers, she did about 9 months box rest and is now back in light work.
Mare is 23 and is living out again, my worry is when she has to cope with the mud in the winter but will see what happens.

 i was told a week of box rest on bute and then turned out alone in a small field for a couple of months  what exactly happened to the mare? did it rupture or slip off the hock?

I 'think' she ruptured it, she went lame and had time in, was turned out again and went very lame and was then scanned by the vet.
The vet did say at the time there was a high chance she wouldn't come back into work.

My boy put 2 core leisions (sp) up his and pulled a small bit (complete with bone chip) off his hock.

He had A-cell therapy, 6 months box rest with hand walking twice a day, 6 months limited turnout (small pen on his own) and now is sound as a pound!!! Happy days
