Hi there,
Has anyone here ever had ACL surgery? I’m almost 8 weeks in and I’ve done some very basic light rides on 2 safe, small moving horses at the W/T but haven’t posted yet. When did you or when should I be able to start posting at the trot without it being bad for my knee?
Thanks

My daughter has had the reconstruction several times, and tbh I think you would be much better waiting until your consultant says you can ride, never mind trot, which is usually around the 3 month point.
Why would you want to risk wrecking the operation? It is major surgery,a no requires a lot of physio to return to anywhere near full strength.

Yes I have been cleared to ride very carefully and safely, not doing anything strenuous to the knee (no posting) and nothing more than W/T in an Arena with guidance. I haven’t done it a lot and for the times that I have I mainly just walk and add a small trot at the end if I do. I have been told that riding is not a problem, it’s just the falling part and being very vigilant while getting on and off. I would never want to risk anything happening to my knee, it is a very intense surgery but that is the personal protocols I have been given at at the place where my knee:) thank you though for the concerns!

I had an ACL reconstruction about 20 years ago. My consultant was adamant that I could not ride for 12 weeks. When I did start riding it was only in walk for a few weeks as it was too uncomfortable to trot.
