I saw my vet issue a warning about acorn poisoning last week. Same goes for dogs too, my spaniel was in the vets with it a few years ago, it made him quite ill and he was lucky to pull through apparently.

So how many acorns do they need to eat before it’s an issue?

I’ve moved them to a different field so should be fine now, but they’ve been in a field with an Oak tree overhanging for about a week or so. Thought Topaz was crunching something the other day but didn’t really pay attention, until today when they all made a beeline to hoover them all up!

They all seem fine and I’ve given them a gut supplement to help but I’ve never seen them eat them before! Please tell me they have to eat tons for weeks before it becomes a big problem ???.

Naughtiest nose yo make it more interesting, she was the ringleader of course ??‍♀️.

If I may say so, that's a rather smug expression! Beautiful, but the epitome of "And your point is . . .?"

Haha you have got her in one! She is, as they say, a 'character' ;).

Though that beautiful face was covered in green poop this morning so slightly less beautiful...

Has anyone heard of acorns causing bad behaviour? Mine is clearly eating a lot and she's been very very silly in the last few weeks

We had this tonight with the trainer - she said my mare was very very spooky near the gate of the school head up eyes wide spooking every time she passed the gate..
Tonight at catching in time, while I was getting the group 2 in, my mare was zooming round the top field about 8 times came in sweaty, then when I picked her vest up from outside, she paddled backwards spooking. She really has gone potty with the acorns.

I just blocked the main trees off tonight, as Mr NF acorn policing gelding is a bit infatuated with our new pony mare and has been neglecting his duties. My daughter's mare spent a little too much time looking for acorns this afternoon, despite me having done an acorn hunt/removal first thing this morning. The remaining half a tree's acorns have 6 ponies competing for the few that get dropped, so no one can eat too many.
