Does anybody has them in their fields and if so, would you try eradicating them completely? We have several and lots of acorns lying about in a new field we are given to graze on.

Would you fence the trees off?
The field has woodland at one end which offers fantastic shelter from wind and rain BUT there are good few oak trees there too...Would you fence off the woodland area?

Unfortunately there do seem to be lots of acorns this year. Some horses like them and gobble them up, and others ignore them. I think if it were me, as one of mine is very partial to them, I would try and fence off the worst affected area and perhaps try and rake up as many of the rest as possible. I know that this is not always feasible but it does depend on your horse, and also the amount of grass you have.

I have an oak tree and as soon as we see them we pick them up so there aren't any one the ground

The branches are too high for them to reach so we wait till they drop and pick them up

I fence mine off from August time and then when the acorns are in dropping season I check the edging of the fence daily and pick any stray ones up. My horse gobbles them all up otherwise.
I leave the fencing up until the new year and they are usually all gone by then from the rabbits and squrrels taking them.

I have a few oaks in a paddock, Id not try to eradicate them as they are beautiful old trees

That paddock is closed off now, and when the acorns are gone it will be opened up again, no problem for me :)
