Acorns!! What do you do about yours??

Hi,

Question is in the title really.

My horse had a bad reaction to eating acorns a few years back, and it has left me feeling quite worried at this time of the year, every year. This year there seems to be more than ever!

When you ask around (including vets), some people are just not worried about their horses eating them at all.

Today my horse was seen standing on his back legs, picking them out of the tree. I pick them up every day but I don't think thats enough...

Your thoughts please?

I cant help sorry but will be interested to see any replies as there is a big Oak in my field and i have been worried about this

We either electric fence them off or switch fields. one died on our yard a few years back. was a horrible way to go. won't risk it now. :-(

Thanks for your replies . Was beginning to think there was no one out there!! Lol
I think I will ask if I can fence them off. You just can't pick them up quick enough!

At the risk of stating the blatantly obvious, I don't let my horses anywhere near acorns, because they are poisonous to them.

Fence the trees off, to help prevent the horses getting to the branches, and raking up any that fall far enough to get into the field is usually a good way xx

Somebody had posted a few days ago about a horse died after eating them! Was feeling off and was dead in field next day!
