Hi All fellow H&H'ers
I have been reading up on acorns and horses munching on them as we have oak trees in our paddocks and they have all been munching on them. I have found out that they are poisonous and as of tomorrow we will be raking them up on a daily basis.
They only started munching on them as the grass has been in short supply this year (as has everyone's from what I can gather
) and so when we moved them into the new field that has plenty of grass we were confused as to why they persisted in eating the acorns and actually actively foraging for them. Turns out that they are aaddictive and horses will crave them once they get the taste for them. All of our boys have been leaving hay and have been a bit grouchy so we are hoping that the removal of all acorns will rectify this
The reason for this thread is two fold: One to see what others experiences of acorns are and two to raise awareness....
