Heard that its soon going to be very hard to get acp tablets as vets are having trouble getting hold of them?

Also how many would you give to a 14.2 pony whos weight is around 540 mark (highland pony)?

Our suppliers have discontinued them. It's because ACP in tablet form is not licensed for horses but Sedalin (ACP gel) is licensed so, by law, we have to prescribe the licensed product.

I find with ACP the dose needed is variable between horses, one dose can be very effective for a 500kg horse, same dose may not touch another of the same weight and type. It's probably best to chat with your vet re: tranquilisation/sedation for your pony, as another HHO user's experience of ACP might not suit your pony and you should have his heart checked before administering it (or recently, at least).

Thanks her heart ect is fine. However acps dont seem to work on her she started on 10 then vet said up to 15 and still no difference at all. Sedaline doesnt work on her as well.

my suppliers dont stock 25mg ACP tabs anymore. had to give my pony handfuls of 10mg ones when i needed to sedate him after box rest. we're supposed to use Sedalin as that's the licensed form but they seems to have forgotten some horses are impossible to get syringes into!

Our pony is a nightmare to syringe wormers into, have to spend several days desensitising her running the syringe over her face, so worrying that ACP tablets are going to be hard to get hold off. When she was cross tied with a leg fracture she ended up on about 10 a day and that hardly took the edge off her, yet a friends horse was knocked out on a similar dose so def worth checking dosage with your vet.

There is a new gel that we used today to clip my boy.
He's an absolute nightmare and cacks his pants at even the sound of clippers. But he's now got a full clip.

It comes in a 3ml syringe and we only gave him 2ml, all you do is put it under their tongue too so it's half as bad as trying to make them swollow it.
Considering the first time we tried we gave him 7ml of Sedeline and he was still unclippable, I think this new stuff works pretty darn well.
I can't remember the name (starts with a D) but I'll check it tomorrow

For sedation shes meant to be on box rest and walked out in-hand however too dangeros to do that so having to turn her out for few hrs each day and then bring her back in. She needs something to take edge off and make her easier to handle as keeps tanking off in-hand even with bridle or pressure headcollar on.

This would be Domosedan gel I would imagine (Detomidine Hydrochloride) - seems to be very effective.
