ACP tablets

I questioned it lol... she said ohhh try that first and no effect then go back to her and she will up the dose! Only need to quickily get a headcollar on, just hope it takes the anxiety away from him enough for me to quickly to it! I am VERY doubtful! I was thinking he would need more like 400mg!!

A quick check has revealed 200mg for a standard sized horse was the usual advice... It's fairly unusual for them to be used now as they are not licensed for horses so vets prefer to use sedalin gel etc., which is licensed.

Yeah I know! But bit impossible to administer something under the tongue when you can't even get a headcollar on lol

The 25mg ones have now been discontinued by the manufacturer, so the 10mg ones are the only strength available. Sedalin/Relaquine/Domosedan gel are the licensed alternatives, but all in paste/gel form.

Yep, used Domosedan the other day on a Mare, that was pretty potent stuff!

I need something he can eat!

I used them last year on a pony about 13 hands and fairly fat, he had 5 in his feed and he was well out of it, I reduced it to 3 a day to keep him calm while on box rest, could not use sedalin as he was very difficult.

Not used them for years, do remember counting out tonnes of them tho. Worked on a yard in my teens where a few of the fitter highly strung horses had 3 or so if they were turned out before working.

The last time I used ACP tablets was to catch an unhandled 5 yr old mare that I bought off the field, because I felt sorry for her - and then couldn't catch. I gave her an apple laced with 15 tablets, waited till she was dozing, then rugby tackled her!!

I've always started at 10, and then added a few more if they weren't feeling it, up to a maximum of 25.

3 tablets on a 17.2h middlewieght rendered him 'relaxed' rather than out of it. Used to help him cope on box rest on the days the hunt hammered past my yard.

Seen 12 used to rendered a 16.2 m/w very sleepy for clipping.

With acp is is crucial they ae given when the horse is relaxed and not stimulated in any way. If the horse is already getting stressy they will not work.
