Can anyone remember giving ACP tablets to their horses..... and how effective they were, I am sure my Vet was having a senior moment!
Yes, and until fairly recently too! They did work but you needed to use a lot of tablets!
hmmmmm well I used to give my collie (20kg) 1 x 25mg tablet, my vet has just give me 5 x 10mg tablets so 50mg for a medium weight 2 yr old 14hh = cob!
I questioned it lol... she said ohhh try that first and no effect then go back to her and she will up the dose! Only need to quickily get a headcollar on, just hope it takes the anxiety away from him enough for me to quickly to it! I am VERY doubtful! I was thinking he would need more like 400mg!!
A quick check has revealed 200mg for a standard sized horse was the usual advice... It's fairly unusual for them to be used now as they are not licensed for horses so vets prefer to use sedalin gel etc., which is licensed.
Hmmmm I think it might be a waste of time me even entertaining 50mg!!
Not at all. I have seen some horses become very sedated on just half a tablet, it is worth a try
The 25mg ones have now been discontinued by the manufacturer, so the 10mg ones are the only strength available. Sedalin/Relaquine/Domosedan gel are the licensed alternatives, but all in paste/gel form.
Yeah I know! But bit impossible to administer something under the tongue when you can't even get a headcollar on lol
