can anyone tell me if there vet is still letting them have acp as my vet bell said it's not licenced anymore but I heard from a friend she is still getting it they said I have to have sedaline which is expensive for my mare on box rest for tear in her ddft thanks

i dont think acp tablets are available for horses any more. Sedalin is acp in a gel form

Its still licenced for dogs i think, so not necessarily old stock its just not supposed to be given to horses in tablet form any more. Nothing to do with the actual drug i dont think, just regulations!

ACP tablets are definitely not available anymore, and were only licensed for use in dogs, so the vet has a legal responsibility to only prescribe the licensed product which is Sedalin paste.

But when rob injured himself 2 months ago the other vet insisted on giving me sedalin...

As I understand it, vets can still prescribe ACP tablets, however only if the owner has tried and been unable to use Sedalin first (for example if the horse is awful to worm, so it's hard to administer the Sedalin).

we still get them, for the reasons alesea says. We tried sedalin but it didnt go into his mouth and as he needs to be sedated to have his legs clipped, for veterinary purposes we can still get them or atleast we did acouple of weeks ago!

One of ours is on box rest at the mo and he's awful to worm, we can have the tablets but I've found if I cut a small peice of carrot in half, then hollow out the middle of one half then put the dose of sedalin in the hollow then put the two peices together he takes it off me, or if i haven't got any carrots I damp a bit of chaff work it into a ball then put the sedalin in that, a performance I know! but it works everytime.

my vet gave us acp but she put it under my dogs name as they arnt allowed to give it to horses anymore but he was on 8 months box rest and sedalin just wasnt an option, and he needed it as hes a door climber :/

P'raps you should ring your vet and tell them you have to take your 6 St. Bernards and 4 Bull Mastiffs to the other end of the Country and they get very travel sick...

thanks for replies was looking for a cheaper option sedalin doesn't really touch her but I'm going to ask for potassium bromide somebody on here told me about x
