.......if your horse gets struck by lightning?
Do you get paid out if this should happen by your insurance?
After worrying all night,with lightning flashing around...did not help as the fat one, was wearing his Rambo Flybuster which is weighted down in metal clips!

Oh yes - I remember reading an article on here a couple of days ago about breeders who had lost a couple of youngsters after they were struck by lightning. Such a tragic thing to happen

See I think they should pay out...if for example your horse got killed in an earthquake,there was no way you could control that situation...is there!

I posted about it in news, the Tidkin ones were here, a few miles from where I keep mine. Needless to say mine will now be in if I have any warning of thunderstorms.

They weren't even standing under trees like the usual cases - the two thoughts were either they were standing in water and it hit that, or hit the electric fencing and jumped as they were close to the fence.

Horrible thing to happen and for insurance not to pay out is ridiculous, its not an act of god, its naturally occurring weather and a freak accident!
 
Well, out of interest have just read this post and discussed with a collegue. Lightning strike is not excluded under our policies so presumably isn't under most insurance policies. It will be deemed as accidental death uner most policies.

Thankfully the occurrence is actually very rare and I think is mainly due to the lay of the land as it were and what surrounds the fields etc. I heard a few years ago of several horses being killed as they were all stood round a large watering hole in the field.

It is a horrid and tragic thing to happen but i guess not an awful lot anyone can do about it. I would rather mine be out than stuck in a stable. I think I would worry more of lightning striking and causing a fire and my horse being trapped. At least if horse is killed by lightning it would be v v quick and they'd know nothing about it.
 
the horse I used to share was killed by lightning (2years ago now). I found him in the field. It was awful. But yes the insurance company (NFU) did pay out, plus they also paid for the cremation the owner wanted...

on the other hand , if you are an athiest then how can something that doesnt exist/you don't believe in kill your horse?
Act of God is just another get out option for insurance companies. As someone else said, lightning is an act of the weather
