Action camera/GoPro

I’m looking for anyone tech savvy to please explain what level of action camera/GoPro will meet my needs!
Ideally I want something to wear while riding on the roads (bad car encounter yesterday, think it would be a wise investment). I also would like it to be good enough quality to film schooling sessions etc. to look back on. I doubt I need the newest (and most expensive!) version to meet my needs.

Ideally I want:
- good enough quality to view back/screenshot (number plates within reason & post on social media etc.)
- ability to transfer to mobile (would be nice)
- decent battery life to cover road portions of hacks
-compatible with general mounts e.g. chest/hat mount, pivo action mount

Anyone know what the oldest GoPro I can go for is to pick up cheapish on eBay? Or have an alternative brand that is as good & reliable?

TIA - I’m not good at comparing specs/knowing what is actually good value for money with these things.

I've just bought an Apeman a79 as it's well reviewed amongst budget cameras. Haven't tried it yet but all the footage online is great quality. It records in 4K instead I'd recording in 2K and then transforming into 4K so it should be plenty clear enough for what you need.
I bought it from ebay,.about 50 quid.
It's compatible with generic mounts and comes with loads of accessories plus it has WiFi to transfer it to your phone.

I also use a Techalogic DC-1, it records front and back which most other cameras don't do (and has been crucial for me twice, where I wouldn't have caught a numberplate otherwise), so a really good choice for the roads. Footage is usually very clear, and it's easy to use.

I would add, though - a camera alone isn't enough. You also need to advertise that you have one on if you want better driver behaviour. I have a tabard with a camera symbol on it, this one - that company now also does hi viz exercise sheets with camera symbols on them, I think the Pass Wide and Slow group already mentioned does discounts on those.

Also as a tip, the camera can sometimes still fail to capture numberplates clearly in gloomy weather/whatever reason, so get yourself into the habit of reading them out loud when someone acts like a pratt, so that the audio picks you up.

It sounds like I’ll need 2 cameras for the individual jobs - a techalogic for the hacking and another for recording schooling/tests etc. ? The techalogic will have to come first, and I’ll have a look at getting one of those tabards too. Though I’m not sure how much either would have helped yesterday as a car drove side on at me and my youngster as we crossed a crossroads & took no notice of me asking him to stop ?‍ Having it on camera might have let me report it afterwards though. Thankyou!

That's the only consolation in those scenarios, really - you can report them and hopefully make them think twice about being such a div next time.

I'd say a good 95%+ of drivers behave properly around me now, whereas prior to the tabard it was more like 80% with a lot of people coming way too close. I also go out lit up like a Christmas tree, which helps too!

definitely, I’m very lucky most people are super accommodating around here and I’ve only ever had one truly scary incident in my whole life prior to yesterday. But I have realised after scuttling quickly across the main road in the wrong direction because someone seemed to think they could happily drive full speed at a 16hh horse - I need the extra protection!! even if 9/10 drivers here are wonderful!
