Hi, was thinking of booking onto an active rider camp sometime in the future. I’m not particularly competitive or experienced but thought it might be good for me and my horse to get out and learn some news things and meet new people.

Just wondering if anyone knows what sorts of age ranges the people who tend to go are, and is it just for young people (I’m no spring chicken) :)

Thanks

I went to one about 18 months ago. There was only a few of us there (this one was in Hull, back when she used to do at different places not just Somerford) but the ages ranged from about 20 to 50+. There were only a couple of men on our camp (one of which was a international rugby star;)) and the rest were ladies.

It was really good fun, the instructors were great. Only let down at ours was how the lady running it (Jane) was constantly moaning (to us:eek:) about how few people there were at the camp and how she was losing £900+ by putting it on for us!! As if that was our fault!:( I have always been put off going on another one now, and they are very expensive, especially as ours was the same price as Somerford ones, but didn't include any food!

thanks so much for replying, apart from the moaning :) did you get a lot out of it?

Apparently the one I am interested is half full so far so its looking hopeful. Thanks again

I did get quite a bit out of it, but unfortunately I didn't really plan it well and the camp was in October and after that the nights drew in and it gets all boggy and I didn't ride much. But yes I took lots away with me to go and practice, especially my jumping.
I'm not a competative rider, just happy hacking mostly, but would like to do a bit more dressage, but yes I really enjoyed it. And just getting a weekend away, just me and the horse, was the best.:)
