Hi,
I have a 2 year old filly who lives out 24/7 and I have had her since she was 7 months old. I have worked on ground manners with her and some bombproofing exercises but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of some activities I can do with her as she loves to learn new things. I won't be backing her until she is three or four.

So far we have done:
Basic manners
Walking in hand with destractions like bikes, dogs, etc in the quiet lane by the field
Walking over tarpaulin sheets and logs
Wearing rugs, a roller (to get ready for the feeling of a girth)
Walking on the road with traffic

Would love to hear what you are doing with your two year olds or any suggestions. Thanks :)

tbh im not a big fan of over handling youngsters. You have pretty much covered all the basics if you havent done feet and loading Id do them but other than that id just leave her in the field for a year and just let her be a baby!

long reining. basicalky you can ride her from the floor. she can learn ecerything you teach on board before you back her - very useful for a bored youngster and very useful to have some buttons there when u first get on.

Thanks for your comments, was thinking of starting to long rein her next year. She does spend most of her time being a baby and usually only one or two half hour sessions a week on basic training which she really enjoys, I have done feet with her but she does need more practice loading but i don't have a box to use so that will have to be on hold for a while. :)

Teaching her to stand correctly when tied up and giving her a bath might be other things you could do with her. Also boots and bandages on legs

What about gates? Not like you would when turning out, more as if you are a rider, coming up against the gate etc. Take the leap rope up short and do the whole 'I can't reach unless we move up closer' act? I don't know, just an idea!

Also, other animals, cattle etc.

I like the sound of the gates idea, and bathing her is on the cards for the next dry warm day (without heavy showers and thumder storms). She isn't a fan of getting wet (washing her mane and tail and feet etc) so any tips for a stress free bath on her part would be useful (I don't have access to a hose, but I will have plenty of water). :)
